02 Grand Cherokee

I am looking at buying an 02 Grand Cherokee. The vehicle has 129K with a 4.7 V8 4x4 and appears to be in good running condition. Are there any major issues and/or problems that I should be looking for or can expect?

From what I remember, the most serious issue is with the full-time four wheel drive system. There is a transfer case component which likes to fail and is terribly expensive to fix. I think when it fails, you get lots of rumbling noise when going around corners.

Also look at www.carsurvey.org It shows hundreds of owner-written reviews on these vehicles. Yes, these reviews are somewhat limited in use, because owners tend to be biased and cranky. But when you find that multiple reviews are complaining about common issues, then you know its legit.
