02 window switch

02 century custom 110k,

drivers window goes down as soon as the ignition switch is turned on, to get it to go up need to play with the switch. Is this a common problem with car.

Thats the first time I have heard of that, but window switches do go bad a lot in GM's in genral. Usually they will have a window goes down but not up or not work all together symptom.

I have done this for that problem with the window switches.
Go to Radio Shack, they have a small spray can of contact cleaner and lube and I think it cost just under $10.
I just rock the switch back and forth giving it a shot of the cleaner.
This has worked for me everytime. No need to take the door apart.

I was thinking about getting some contact cleaner today, I'll have to give that a try.

Are you saying that it is a cleaner with a lube included or seperate cans??

Got a can of Control/Contack Cleaner & Lubricant from Radio Shack like jrecken suggested, liberally sprayed the switch and worked it without ignition on and so far the window does not go down when the switch is turned on. Seems like the ghost has left the car.

This was the result of you leaving the window open when it rained. Because the switches are in the horizontal position, the water drains into the switch and corrodes the contacts. All it takes is one or two rains.

If the contact cleaner doesn't work, pop the switch module by prying at the front. There is a clip at the front and a tab at the back, don't break the tab.

Look at the connector, the first few contacts at the front are probably corroded. A small wire brush on a Dremel will clean them up. Whole job is 15 minutes.

DON"T leave the windows open! or you'll be doing this again.
