Getting a code of misfire on cylinder 2. I have replaced coil, plugs, wires, # 2 injector, 02 sensor, replace intake gaskets, fuel filter, (pvc valve, hose, cup), Cam sensor and Sync. shaft and cleaned the throttle plate and cleaned the MAF senser. Code still comes back when cleared and the intake manifold makes a loud continuous chirping/squealing sound (When cold a little sound but when hot it gets loud)and has a definite miss while idling.

Seems like misfire is at idle, Car "seems" to run ok at higher speeds.

Code: P0302
Engine is 182-CID U series OHV6
Miles:108,000

Cylinder 2 has higher compression
Compression: 1-165 2-178 3-155 4-155 5-155 6-155

Update:
After changing out the Cam Sensor and Sync. shaft the engine is quieter but still has a miss and sound coming from upper manifold.

MAF sensor test ok and Throttle Position sensor. Voltages there and working.

Any suggestions??????:banghead:

The misfire on bank 1 (cyl 2) along with a bank 1 lean code would suggest a fuel issue, but the carbon on the plug would not so much. I'm not sure the difference in compression would indicate much, it's not wildly different from the others.

The noise from the intake manifold would seem to suggest a vacuum leak, either from a vacuum hose, the intake air tubing, or possibly a gasket. You may also want to make sure the EGR is doing what it's supposed to. Although often an EGR that isn't closing fully will cause stalling.

It will be a few day before they can get it in for a smoke test. I did take carb. cleaner and spray around the manifold and hose to try to detect a leak. I can not hear one and the carb. cleaner did not cause the engine to smooth out. Any more ideas????

The intake noise sounds like a leak or a PCV valve chattering- since you replaced the hose, maybe the nipple in the manifold is partially clogged? The higher compression could be carbon build-up.

It is not chatter valve, cup and hose is new, I can pull it and noise still there. I have replaced the intake gaskets because of this noise with no effects. Usually cold I get a miss but some noise but when warm I get both #2 miss and loud noise. I am thinking about pulling the valve cover on that side and have a look at # 2 and #1 and see if there might be any problems there. Maybe mechanical issue. I think if there was a vacuum leak this big you could hear it or carb cleaner sprayed would change engine idle. Does this sound reasonable? Appreciate any comments you have!!

If you have the pushrod engine it is an overhead valve not an overhead cam
commonly referred to as the vulcan.

if you have the Duratec, it is a DOHC Dual Overhead Cam.

I didn't see a model year listed. the motors are basically the same but they changed plumbing, emissions etc over the years and different model years have common problems.

If you told us what year it was that might help narrow down where to look first.

Engine 3.0L (182-CID) OHV6 (U series)
I think the push-rod engine by the vin number 2001 (UX1)

Also I am replacing the cam sensor and sync. shaft. It comes with step and w/o step. At O'Riley parts store we compared both and seen no difference. Can anyone tell me the difference?

Sorry I didn't see the title of your thread.

Go to Rock auto to cross check the part numbers.

Most people agree the VSS is suspect after 100K miles.

OK, I replaced the Cam Sensor and Sync. shaft w/step(45 minute job). A lot of chirping noise left so I may have had a couple of problems. I still get the loud chirping/squealing noise coming from the intake manifold, worse with hot engine(hard to hear when cold, gets louder as car warms up), and miss fire on #2 P0171 and P0302 codes.

The noise started when the Check Engine light came on.

(VSS or called the (OSS) Output shaft speed sensor on 2000 and later model

Tulsa, the Vehicle Speed Sensor will cause the noise or the miss fire? Can you explain a little more about this? I have attached a Rock auto diagram below one is an output sensor and one is an input sensor. Do I need both parts?

Hello Tulsa I am from there also. I appreciate your help. I am stuck on this problem and now totally lost! No you were not wrong I updated the main thread with current information.

After replacing the Cam sensor and shaft I am only getting a 302 error(Misfire on cylinder 2). I still have a chirping/humming sound coming from the intake. Since the 171 code is gone, there can not be a vacuum leak. Any ideas, I am totally lost at this point. TPS and MAF and EGR sensor test with a volt meter ok! 02 sensor is new.

FROM THE BOOK: H40 DTCS P0171, P0174, P1130, P1131, P1150, OR P1151: LEAN SYSTEM DTCS , Note: Do not clear the DTCs or reset the keep alive memory (KAM).
Bank 1 = DTC P0171 (lean)
ALSO: CHECK FOR KEY ON ENGINE OFF (KOEO) DTCS

Wooo I'm lost! I have a Haynes manual and don't find anything in it about: CHECK FOR KEY ON ENGINE OFF (KOEO) DTCS Can you explain more in detail? 0171 is bank one lean 0302 is misfire #2
