Reducing the diameter of a tire (19 inch => 20 inch)

I ride the current Mercedes SLR with Transkit A + Club into the Brabus version.

Here is their method for reducing the diameter of the tire, very uncertain as the solution.

This is clearly a case of a Chinese and a French trying to communicate in English.

The English of the A+ Club guys is the worse I witnessed in any TK up to date, as far as I'm concerned they could have left the text in Mandarin or Cantonese. :D

PS: To me it looks like they want you to use part 9 as a template to cut the tires inside part in order to increase the hole's diameter. I might be wrong though so don't take this for granted.

In a way you are reducing the diameter from 19" to 20"!

That is an interesting challenge and I do not see a simple solution. What I might consider trying is an extension of this "How-to" http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?threadid=98848 by placing the tire on a socket only half-way, and then sanding or scratching out the inside of the tire like a lathe. Very difficult though!

OK, I'm not sure what I said earlier makes any sense. I think he wants to increase the inside diameter of the rubber part of the tire, but I am not sure.

Here is a picture of the transkit he is using and whatever item 9 is for, there is only one provided for all four tires, so it is not destroyed in their process or left in the tire at the end of the install.

So, the instructions are essentially telling someone to shave the sidewalls? I say just jam those 20 inch wheels into the Tamiya tires and call it a day! Or get some Aoshima 20 inch tires.

Mediamix has some pictures of a completed model, and in one of the photos, it does look like you have the cut the inside diameter to decrease the width of the sidewall.

Their instructions are perfectly easy to follow...why can't any of you figure this out?

He 'is not a problem on the instructions, I just wanted s'avoir if there was no other method.

Because it is not easy to do given the materials used.

Use some rough grit sandpaper and fit it onto a piece of round wooden dowel. Start with a smaller size than required and gradually sand away the rubber a bit at a time, using a twisting motion. Keep increasing the diameter of the dowel until you end up at the right size and always keep checking the tire on the wheel to make sure you don't take away too much rubber. I did this once on a studio 27 rally transkit and it works well.
