Hello, my wife's 2006 equinox heater just quit working. Very little to no heat comes out no matter what heat setting we use. Thermostat is ok ,fan works fine, AC works fine, just no heat. Checked the fuse it's ok. Is there an electronic switch or solinoid that controls a valve?? tried to buy a repair manual nobody seems to carry them. anybody ever try the electronic program manuals out there? that seems to be the only manual i can find. Take alook at this site if you have the sam problem

Sounds like typical temperature door has broken int your Chevy Equinox.
It is buried inside the dash. When it breaks, you have no heat. Not electrical or any other problem.
This repair takes a good 8 hours to replace the $30 door. Entire dash, carrier, and HVAC case has to come out and disasemble.
Also does this on the Pontiac Torrent.

Tech JK, any idea why it just seems to be the 2006 model that has this problem. I don't see any posts on the internet for 2005 models. I have a 2008 Pontiac Torrent and hope I don't run into this in a few years time.

I had a similar problem with my 2005. It threw up a code though. " Engine not up to operating temp" or something like that. Had new thermostat put in & had heat again. ~ Jon

have seen 3 myself. scary thing is that the replacment door isn't redesigned.
unplug and remove the temp actuator motor; if the door is broken the temp door tab will fall into the heater box.

I have just finished fixing my wifes heat door on her 2006 Pontiac Torrent. (Equinox sister)
I noticed that the servo motor tries to over turn the shaft on the heat door at the extream cold and hot settings. You can hear the servo working if you listen on the passengers side under the dash with the engine off and the ignition turned to on.
This probably putting undue stress on the heat door shaft. I suggest only setting the temp control one notch short of full hot or cold settings to keep from breaking another door shaft.
Hope this helps anyone that has replaced one of these or had to pay to repace one.

Quick way to check temp door, is vent position, A/C off.....feel air flow at full cold.....now go to full hot......if air flow remains the same, temp door is not moving........if it is much slower, than the door is moving....if that's the case, then you may have a coolant leak( low on coolant creating an air pocket) or plugged heater core.....but that would cause the vehicle to overheat, and you didn't say that was a problem......

I have a 2006 Torrent, the heat was working fine one day and the next no heat at all...it blows cold air. Everything else seems to be working fine but no heat...can you help with this? Can I still drive my car with this problem? or will cause more damage?

THIS CAR SHOULD BE RECALLED!!!

This sounds exactly like the problem I had, I had the engine light come on, so I had it checked. It said that the car was NOT getting hot enough. I was reluctant to replace the thermostat since I am living in Phoenix AZ, but they kept telling me it could cause 'other' problems. Well I had no other problems until I replaced the thermostat. Then I was in over heating hell and unable to find the problem. This may be the answer. It has to be some kind of blockage somewhere. This is the link to my post on the forum here and the complete history of all the problems I have had. http://tinyurl.com/zp4r5bh
If you could please weigh in on my problem and tell me about this heater core issue. I am so tired of banging my head against the wall, I just want to figure this out. :dunno: :banghead: :dunno: :banghead:
Thanks for any help you can provide!!! BTW, the over heating usually only occurs when stopped while the car is running for a while and I live in Phoenix, so those in other areas may not have that problem. Conversely, I do not know about the heater issue since I use it so little in AZ.

Hi, Can you look at my post and give me an opinion if you think you might know what the trouble is. I would really appreciate it. http://tinyurl.com/j3o42f8 Thanks

If it is under 120000 miles, I think it's covered under special warranty by GM. Call GM before asking a GM dealer. It's either 120000 mi or 102000 mi. Mine was covered
