read this in a hod rod book a man took a 4.8 or a 5.3 and put it in his 2000 gtp and the only thing he said he had to change was headers for the back and the trans from his 3.8 bolted right up because its the same block just a diff bore. the pcm he got out of the gxp were he got the motor and said it runs like a gto......... is this bull crap or can it be done that easy????????:confused::confused::screwy: :screwy::screwy:

its not bull. not sure about the 4T65E-HD bolting right up to the motor. i did see a 98 GTP on Ebay a while back with the N* V8 in there. car looked like a real piece though.

Yeah, I remember that ebay one. That guy had a reserve of 10,000 or so and no one was bidding on it. No one wanted the junkstar. Can you tell I am not a fan of the N* motor? Why someone would want that in their GTP instead of the 3800SC is beyond me. N*'s have virtually no aftermarket, not to mention for the size of the displacement, you would think it should get more HP. Anyone ever change the starter in a N* motor?

Not sure if the 5.3 from a GXP would bolt in or not, but bolting straight up to the 4T65e-HD sounds a little far fetched. The 5.3 would need its own computer, and I doubt the computer wouldbe able to controll the 4t65e-hd..... But I suppose it is possible. If so, I'd like to see it. And I too would be interested..... (if only I had a garage stall I could use for a few months).

Just get a '05-'08 GXP and problem solved. :grinyes:

I actually like the body style of the 97-03's better than the 04+'s. They're not bad, but I was a little disappointed when they came out. They look too much like bonnevilles to me. :crying:

First the 3800 and the 5.3L engines do not share the same block. Very different animules. Although the 5.3L differs from the classic Chevy 350 small block by having a deep-skirt block (original 350 is split at the crank centerline). The S2 3800 has always had the deep skirt cross-bolted mains hence the bulletproof lower end easily adapted to the additional stresses of power charging.

I doo agree with Bnaylor that your money is best spent getting a GXP....and should you choose...transplant the entire front cradle into the original recipe GTP (no guarantees this is a bolt-on fit, either). The next 3-4 years would be consumed straightening out the electronics. ;)

I have, it's one of the easiest to change. Takes about an hour and you don't have to crawl under the car. Most people have to never change one, they last a looooong time.

1 hour? For real? You must be one quick mechanic (cleaning up all them LIM Gasket surfaces). Although I dont think it would take me an hour to install one on my GTP.

And Bob, someday I will have my 08 GXP, Black, Black leather interior....

The 350 and 5.3 have a differant bolt pattern for the bell housing. The Northstar is acually not a good engine and I know one yard that sells them left and right. The Northstar is known for head gaskets blowing and a special heli coil set made by Kent Moore has to be used to inset heli coils for the headbolt threads. The threads strip out when the headgaskets fail since the block is aluminum and the threads go down to the main caps.I have heard the 2001 and up Northstars are horrible to change,My father turned one down after reading on one to change the engine since it has to come out from the bottom.

Really? I have heard about head gasket failures, but never the head bolts stripping. What a piece of junk! You would think that having to use a heli-coil on head bolts would cause premature failure of the new gaskets. So pretty much if you blow one head gasket, you might as well buy a new block or else you will ocntinue to blow head gaskets? Gosh, the more I hear about that motor, the more I hate it. Good thing its mainly old people with deep pocketbooks who drive caddy's! :lol2:

The headbolt threads pull out when the headgaskets go,even removing the headbolts and you will have a hard time torqueing the headbolts down if the heli coils are not installed, the threads will strip out.Although Cadillac is part of GM,there is Cadillac and there is GM which are not the same.Cadillac does it their way and GM cannot do it anything about it

What have you been smoking? :uhoh:....

The different front and rear clips on the GXP makes the difference. BTW - You wouldn't catch me driving a Bonny. :grinno:
