So a friend called me and insisted I take his other friend out for a ride in the old G-lant. The other friend has a Camaro SS that he likes to run at the local track, and ran a 13.6 recently. The galant has been idling high as of late(2k rpm), another issue i need to resolve, and I've only got it at 14psi because I have no boost controller, so it is running straight off the wastegate. I go to pick him up at Sonic, and some kids with an older 4.6 Mustang hassled me about popping the hood. Since i'm keeping this on the down-low (somewhat) I tell them it's nothing special and we pile into the car as they pile into their mustang and proceed to follow me out of town on the highway. The car was cold, so i was letting it warm up before actually tearing into the boost, and when we hit the open part of the road it was finally warmed up.

I start in on fifth gear while cruising just trying to make the bpv release pressure to hear that sweet sound. No joke, when it's blowing out air everytime I shift, I can't help but grin and everyone loves to hear it. We take off down a country road and I proceed to leave the poor mustang around every turn. Anticipating a chance to run the deadly 4.6, I head for the divided highway that's only a couple miles away, but they had to get back home and turned the other direction.

I took it up to the highway anyways and did a dry run to show the LS1 lover how it ran. Dead stop on the on ramp, without studderbox, I slipped the clutch from 5k and ripped through first, shifted into second at 7k rpms and continued shifting until around 105 before shutting it down.

Sadly the Camaro won't race me now though, because he is sure he'll be beaten badly. Which meant the nearly stock Mustang GT would have been beaten much worse. Friday is track day so I'll get numbers then.

For those unaware: 91 Galant VR4

Sleeper FTW. Man, if I beat a GT Mustang, I'm pretty sure you'd walk all over one.

Cant wait to see what that beast lays down at the track! You gonna be on 14psi there or more?

Yes 14 psi at the track Friday. Hope the weather holds !!

Ultimately aiming for 25psi or so with a ported head and 280 cams by the end of winter. If that doesn't get me into the low tens I'll have to consider bottling it or e85 :/

My buddy is learning dsmlink so he may be tuning the setup some on the way down. We will see how that goes!!

Nice. I am interested to see how it performs at the track. Those GVR4's are scary little sleepers.

E85 ftw! I'm converting in spring

E85 FTL...

I despise that stuff.

But can't wait to see what you do at the track!

Why hate teh E? Is it cause youre DI? Lol

No, its because of what it does to fuel systems, gas millage, the cost of food and regular fuel, the pumps at gas stations, and more. E85 is the biggest hoax in the country.

Which is why I was also considering meth injection. Don't know. That bridge still hasn't come.

I'm all for meth.

Oh, its awesome in cars too...

Buddy is running it on his Scooby. Well, he was till he blew it up, but he's got the motor rebuilt and is still running the meth. Meth injection is great because you run about half a million tunes with it. Pump, pump+meth, race, race+meth. No matter what situation, you'll have a tune for it.

3:) indeed it is nice but it's my understanding that itcan be difficult to tune for. If I can use it I'm going for 35 psi :D

I love my meth. And I tuned my car all myself on meth, its not hard at all. If you want an aggressive tune just make sure your meth isnt going to fail (pump, wiring, pressure switch, etc) other wise you could blow up due to knock from all the extra timing or being too lean. First I installed the kit and mixed up some meth and watched how much it richened my AFR. It went from 11.7:1 to 11.2 on my 50/50 mix and 5gph nozzle. So I basically started out working my MAF and power enrichment tables (in HPTuners, not sure what you are using to tune) to get my A/F ratio to where i wanted it to be. Then I slowly added timing after 5000rpms from my non meth tune of 18*. Got it to 21* then added a couple degrees in the midrange all while making sure I wasnt getting any knock. Then I bumped it up slowly to 23* after 4k and kept adding in the midrange until I saw some KR, then backed it down 2*. I can add 2 more up top I'm sure since 25* is the LSJ's golden number, but I wanted to keep it somewhat conservative incase something fails.

handy info! i'm using dsmlink, so i'm sure i'll get it figured out.

ran a 12.6@105 best time tonight. 1.89 60ft

Raced the camaro, which got a 13.30 this time, on the highway on the way back. First pull was at about 65, i put it in 4th instead of third and pulled through. He got an edge early, but I got him by a nose, by 110. second time i went ahead and dropped down to third from same speed, he got me the whole way by a car. These just don't pull on the highway like the good old LS1 does. :/

You on say 16-18psi would be a fun highway run for me, probably be close. I trapped 106.7 on my winter tune and big pulley so with my summer tune and small pulley and you at that psi it would be fun:)

Of course when you quit screwin around with me and raise the boost ill see your taillights from any speed lol

Thats something I wish more meth kits on the market had today, a more comprehensive safety system. HPF (Turbo E46 M3s at 650+whp) has a kit set up that as soon as it sees any issues with the meth pump or the amount that is flowing in, it pulls boost and brings it back down to safe levels till you can get the kit saved. It was a bad meth pump or nozzle that blew up my buddies STI. He's still using the meth though, just got an inline filter to keep gunk out of the line and his rebuilt motor has a new meth pump and nozzles.

Good job on the numbers. But your 1.89 60'...well...you have AWD so that doesn't count lol. What was the 'Maro trapping at the 13.30? And yeah, there is something about those LS1s that just love to keep on running the faster they are going.

Dunno his trap. They showed at the track late and watched me run. First time I ran for them I got a 13.05 or some nonsense and the ls1 owner was like "yeah that's what I thought it would run".

It wasn't busy so I got to run every 4 min about. Went back and ran a 12.88 and then a 12.75 and needless to say I impressed some of them.

It won't stay on this setup for too long. I have a ported head that needs minor machine work and I'll be getting some bc 280 cams and setting the tune up for 93 octane. With the stutterbox and no lift to shift on topof that I'm sure I can get deep into the 11s before spring time.

Last night I never got to launch with boost so naturally my 60ft times were a bit slow. Couple that with a headwind and me being in a flying brick and you can imagine howfast this car is/could be.
