Even the entry-level 3.1 V6 has enough ooph to "surprise" some 1.3 - 1.6 4 cylinder european cars.
I don't feel that much "dwarfed" by any typical Renault's, VW 1.9 TDI Golfs and other european cars. Going against an american Mustang, Camaro or any other V6's would be an entirely different business.

WHen I had tried the TS with the 3.1 in early 90's, I found it anemic, maybe not in the 1st 20mph because of its high gear ratio, but as it nears road speed. THe 3.8 in '92 was another class, with its tremendous low end torque that keeps it going strong even in 4thTCC... Even my son who uses it sometimes complains about spinning the wheels when starting at a traffic light...he has to control his foot. He has no such problem when he uses my other car....a Kia SPortage 2000....

Its funny you say that LMP...
My 95 TS when it had its original L27 3800 TPI was a freak of a v6... That van would rock and would spin the tires if you didn't pay attention... and that was with wider 225/60-16 tires 400 wear rating... I rebuilt the trans and made the final drive 2.97 as opposed to 3.06 for fuel economy and it would still break em loose.. wet weather driving was touchy( wish it has Traction Control )
Ok moving on... Friend has a 93 Buick LeSabre... I did a Trans swap for him, went from 2.84 to 3.06... Car was freaky fast with the 2.84... With the 3.06 its too easy to vaporize the rubber...
The low end grunt from the L27's was crazy... I had and still have a hard time making the front tires last on my 95 TS... Its no better with the new series III drivetrain either...LOL
