Car Problems..

Yesterday, my car wouldnt crank at all. At first when I would turn the key to crank it, the car got some power to the inside to the point the cd player came on and the battery light lit up and when I did turn the car off power was still coming into the car to my cd player. I left it parked at the gas station, went back a couple of hours later to try to get it to crank again, but this time when I put the key in the ignition the key turned a little too loosely and no type of power came into the car at all. Nothing lit up in my car's dash.

What do you think if wrong with my car, I wont be able to get it towed to my mechanic until Monday morning. Im thinking it might have something to do with my ignition module, wires, or just something to do with ignition period since when I put the key in the ignition its a little loose.

is this an 82 caprice ? IF SO why don't you get some jumper cables and see what happens..or buy that portable jumper kit..?

checking/cleaning the battery connections is also a good idea before you spend money for a tow job.

on an 82 caprice you could start it with anytrhing that would fit in the hole and rotate..in alot of these old vehicles..

this may be a stupid question but can electrical issues cause the ignition to screw up?

ive been sitting and thinking about the issues ive been having with my car, and lately my flip out tv/cd player will be working fine but while im driving it'll shut off and cut back on by itself..and the battery light will stay on for a few seconds once i start my car although my battery is fine..

you put your key into the LOCK CYLINDER...the lock cylinder has a metal rod that goes to the base of the steering collum to move the IGNITION SWITCH. this switch then routes power to the vehicles ignition circuit power...so when the ignition is on , the items powered on when the key is on , must go thru this switch..

with your vehicle this old I have seen engines try to start by themselves with no one in the car...very scary..because of this worn switch...
