Stick Shift

Hi,

I am a newbie here. Just bought a 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT with 71,000 miles. The car seems to running great and the interior is excellent, it really only needs a paint job and replacement of the window seals from what I see so far.
Question? I am use to driving manual on newer cars and it has always been very smooth to shift. I feel like it's a workout for me to shift(sorry, i'm a female). Are all Fiero's that tight to shift? Could there be something wrong that I can change to make it an easier shift? I am going to change to a short shifter, would that be easier too?
What do you think I need to replace to make sure it runs effectively? Spark plugs, distributor,etc...Please help! :runaround:

P.S. I am living in San diego now. Does anyone know of a place they fix Fiero's at in or around San Diego?

The manual transmission is a hydraulic system. I bought my 87 GT new and it was very easy to shift. The stock system is very light. I replaced the clutch in my 87 at 75K miles with a heavy duty clutch, so mine has a heavy feel to it.. The car now has 124K miles on it and this spring I started having difficulty shifting and it was the clutch master leaking (22 years old) and then the slave cylinder bleeder screw broke and the slave cylinder was replaced. Unfortunately the slaves on the market are not of the best quality. This slave failed after about 500 miles. I ended up getting another slave at www.rodneydickman.com Rodney has some good quality Fiero replacement parts.

Since I'm in Florida, I don't know of any mechanics in San Diego, but there are some in the LA area.
