My friend told me something very interesting and i wanted to see if maybe n e of you know if this is true and to pass it on if soo. Wel any way he was tellin me about this new place where the cops hide and take radar by our neighborhood and he told me that a cop cannot pull you over unless the cop is in fullsite from both directions like he cant be hiding behind a sign where u cant see him and he pulls you over now if this is true thats awsome its just another way to get out of a ticket and piss the pigs off (no offense to cops i kinsa want to be 1) but my buddy says a local cop told him this so if n e one knows if its true please share.

they can pull you over and give you a ticket if they want to its just you would have to go to court with evidence of them not being in plain view to public and then it would be dismissed

supratuner

That is true, though, does a cop have to tell you an exact speed to give u a ticket?

All the cops in my area are jerks, all but two, and they tell em all this shit, one time i was with one of them and we started typing in license plate numbers into the computer, which is illegal but we thought it was funny.

Just remember this, no matter if u take a cop to court on some thing, they always win

You call cops pigs...then you say no offence and that you want to be one...riiiiiiight..

Anyway, I don't know the law in Chicago, but it seems like BS. If they catch you breaking the law that's it, whether you can see them or not.

Oh Supratuner, "it's illegal but it's funny"...very clever. Say that when someone ...I dunno...vandalises your car or your house or whatever. "we know it's illegal but it's funny...hahahaha..."
AND they don't always win.

Sheesh.

From what i understood a cop had to show you the radar gun by law if you ask but then i was told they didnt. The law is so fucked up i even ask cops these questions and one will tell me for instance my exhaust is illegal and then i'll ask another and they say really its legal and shit like that so if theres n e cops on here give us the damnd truth if i cant get the str8 truth from a police officer then who the hell can i trust.

Just because I post a negative reply it makes me old? Right.

I just get annoyed with people posting stupid shit. Like how to avoid getting caught when you break the law. You don't want to get caught? DON'T BREAK THE FUCKING LAW, MORON.

If it is the case, then cops in PA sure don't obey it.....they hide behind everything from bridge pylons to parked Amish buggies (no joke!)

I can tell you though, that in South Africa, for a cop to legally ticket with radar, it must be tripod mounted and he must be in plain view, not obscured or hidden. I type of radar the traffic police in South Africa use is too variable when hand held, so it has to be tripod mounted (On another note, Toksin is from Kwazulu-Natal, it may be different up there, where I lived was in the Eastern Cape and I can only speak with certainty for that area).

WE HAD POLICE IN SOUTH AFRICA???

LOL, jokes aside, I can't really remember how the laws were over there, and I'm not sure how they are here, but the police are usually in plain sight, but sometimes they hide behind trees, bushes, sit in bus stops with the hairdryer (THAT was ridiculous...4 cops at one site with a laser gun)...

Most of the ticketing here I believe is done with unmanned cameras.

True, a generalisation indeed, but even the friends I have in the SAP say they are pretty powerless now, since the judicial system is a joke......

If cops have to be in full view for an arrest to be made/ticket to be given, then why do undercover cops/stakeouts exist?

BZZZZZZZZ wrong. A cop can give you a ticket no matter how visible he is. The cop cars in the town where I went to are painted matte black with smoked tail lights. Why? You can't see them at night until you're passing them. If their radar goes off, they can ticket you.. and about showing you the gun, they don't have to show you the gun, but you can ask them to run a calibration test on it, which always comes out as well calibrated. Basically, the cop will always win.. your best bet is to be polite and respectful and ask nicely for your speed to be lowered. Either that or you better have one hell of a lawyer. Respect gets you places that you would never think. I got a ticket clocked at 85 in a 55. When all was said and done, they knocked it down to 60 in a 55 so it wouldn't go on insurance, I paid my ticket, and left.

Firstly, slow down. Use commas and full stops (periods in American). They are your friend.

Who spammed you? Wasn't me.

If I don't break the law something is wrong with me? WTF?? Yeah, I respect the law. Shit!! There's something wrong with me, help!

And no, I don't speed intentionally unless I'm out in the middle of nowhere where there's no one else around I can harm. I don't know my abilities as well as I should, and if the law says I can't drive faster than 100kph on the highways, I ain't gonna do it. I never said I didn't speed.

If a cop catches me break the law, and I know I've done it, well, I'm going to deal with it, it's called accepting responsibility for your actions.

I was merely stating my opinion, you don't want to see it, put me on ignore and don't read my posts.

As for calling me bitch boy and dumbass, call me what you like, bitch boy, dumbass, faggot, homo, moron, shithead whatever. To me you're just words on a screen, what the hell do I care what you call me? You can call me Miss Susan for all I care, it's not going to hurt my feelings.

Who cares where cops are if they pull you over for speeding. You're speeding so duh! get your ticket and deal with it instead of trying to find a scapegoat. You're breaking the law, the cops are just doing their job and keeping people safe unlike speeding drivers.

and as for YOU mr funkwhateveryournameispal, making sense every now and then wouldn't be a bad thing now, would it? ;)

You are aware that the law varies from state-to-state and country-to-country, right?

Like I mentioned before, in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa, a cop has to be in view to use radar, that's the only time.....who knows why.....
See, different country, different law.....

I am not sure, but I seem to recall that a PA cop is supposed to be visible from 2 sides. Here, local cops can't use radar, so they use VASCAR (painted lines used to time your passing, and the time is found in a chart to show approximate speed). There can be a "range" on some speeding tickets so that no matter what y our acutal speed in that bracket, your price on the ticket is the same. VASCAR is not very accurate, so they get challenged a lot. Radar has to have been calibrated in the last 24 hours or it can be kicked out of court, so goes the rumor mill in PA. It's best to just show up on the court date and see if the cop even shows. If he doesn't make it, you get off scott-free anyway. If he does show you can plead leiniency (sp?) or not-guilty and hope that the cop doesn't have the radar "ticket" by then... But most of this just comes from "stories" I've heard.

I know most locals can't use radar, but most of the roads I travel are State Police patrolled, and they use radar.....and I can assure you they are not very visible.....

Locals can be certified to use radar now, there is a local in State College that got certified....
