RECENTLY PURCHASES 1996 OLDS DELTA 88 WITH KEYLESS REMOTE SYSTEM BUT NO REMOTE. PURCHASED NEW G.M. REMOTE SENDER, BUT IT DOES NOT OPERATE. THE HORN SOUNDS FOR ABOUT TWO MINUTES WHEN PARKED OVERNIGHT WITH THE DOOR AJAR. I'M HOPING IF I REPROGRAM THE VEHICLE, THE REMOTE WILL OPERATE AND THE HORN WILL OPERATE WITH THE SYSTEM PROPERLY. ANYONE HAVE ANY THOUGHTS OR ADVISE ON THE REPROGRAMING? YOUR INPUT WOULD GREATLY BE APPRECIATED. THANKS!!!

Try the following proceedure
1) sit in car with all doors closed and the key out of the ignition
2) press the drivers side door lock and hold
3) while holding the door lock button insert the key and remove it twice.
4) insert the key a third time and leave it in the ignition (do not turn the key)
5) press and hold the lock and unlock buttons on the remote for 12 -15 seconds until the horn beeps
6) release the button and remove the key
You should now have the remote programed.
If this doesn't work try releasing the door lock after inserting the key the third time
If this doesn't work try holding the unlock button on the door
I found the above proceedure in a couple of places on this forum and in the Olds manual.
Good luck

I believe the Bonn'vlle, LeSabre and 88 all have the same DLC.
Go to this thread. I will be trying this on a new remote today. will let you know if it works

Perform the following procedure when adding new transmitters or replacing failed transmitters:
1 Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2 Use a fused jumper wire in order to jumper the DLC terminal 8 (BLK/WHT) to terminal 4 (BLK).
3 Close all of the doors.
4 Turn the ignition switch ON. The doors will cycle to lock.
5 Press and hold the LOCK button and the UNLOCK button on one transmitter. After a 30 second delay the doors will lock and unlock. ImportantDo not turn the ignition OFF or the first transmitter will become inoperative.
6 In order to program extra transmitters, repeat step 5.
7.Disconnect the fused jumper wire from the DLC.
8. Turn off ignition
You will need to program all transmitters as the program mode erases the former.
I used a 10amp fuse in the jump wire, I've seen it suggested that a 3A fuse be used.
It worked great!!
$7.50 for xmitter on ebay
$.50 for jump wire and fuse
The dealer can jump in the lake (wanted $80 for the remote and $30 to program it.

Mikemail,
The Last Procedure That Doug Suggested Worked Like A Charm. Just Jump The Dlc Terminal & Follow His Instructions. It Took Me About 5 Minutes. I'm Not Sure It Will Work On Your Vehicle, But It's Worth A Try.
Good Luck!

I have 1996 Olds 88, and both the keyless remotes stopped working sometime ago. Is there a way to know if its the keyless fobs or the receiver on the vehicle thats damaged.
