Electric Door Lock Actuators

So, I had problems with 4 of the doors in my 95 Suburban, they would lock, but they wouldn't unlock. So I was told I needed new door lock actuators.

However, my dad was wondering if it could be something else because 3 actuators died at the same exact time, which admittedly is sort of odd. So, we have a 94 Suburban that currently is in the process of getting a new used engine (one that came out of my 95). So we pulled the actuator from one of the doors on the 94 and popped it in the 95. However, when we tried it out, we had the same exact problem, door would lock, but not unlock.

And I know that the door locks on the 94 Suburban worked. However, it's possible that they have died since then (very unlikely, but possible).

So, I'm wondering if there is a control module that could be malfunctioning or something like that, maybe a bad ground?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. It's so annoying to have to roll down the windows so someone can unlock and get into the right rear seat when I'm in the drivers seat.lol

I have encountered this caused by binding/friction in the linkage and guides. I fixed it by lubricating and working the linkage and guides in the door.

My driver door acuator stuck in the locked position in late 1990s while on vacation (moral: never let your Suburban take vacation). Anyway, I couldn't raise the inside button even with a vise-grip, or unlock with the key, so I had to enter/exit through passenger door; all other doors worked normally. Anyway, at home, couldn't get the door panel off while that door was locked closed; then about three weeks later it worked, I opened the door, took the door panel off, and basically cleaned up the mechanism with WD-40 to restore full operation.

Check the connector at the actuators for power and ground when the switch is on lock and unlock, you may find power or ground missing in one position. If the vehicle has the remote keyless option there is a relay in the system that may have a bad contact

the locking actuators lock/ unlock by reversing the polarity of voltage to the coil...so this rules out the actuators..the reversing componets are probably in need of cleaning the contacts...this should be in the drivers door control..leaving the window open and rain/debris falling on the switches/control circuit and time all causes this..

most likly your switch, has durty contacts or needs to be replaced. since it is a older truck your locks and mechanics should be cleaned and lubed. years of road dust and rust will collect on them and couse all kinds of problems.

part of maintance is if it moves lube it. if it does not move paint it. rust, durt, grime, will build up every ware.
