chevy small blacks

what, if any are the differences in a chevy 327 and a 350. I was always told that the outward dimensions were all the same. After an argument with my brother-in-law I just wanted to get more info to see who was correct.

327 is internally balanced plus the stoke is different, 350 is externally balance, and there are other suttle differences such as the pvc placement.

Do you mean what is the difference between the blocks themselves?

Hey fritz cat yeah that is exactly what I wanted. I was trying to tell the bone head brother in law that the outer deminsions where the same so that there wouldn't be a difference in putting either a 327 or a 350 in a s-10. I just like to confirm what I say is correct.

Not only are the outer dimensions the same, it's the same block! The only difference between the two are the crank and the pistons. Everything else is the same. You can take the inards out of a 327 and stuff them into a 350 block and vice-versa. ( I did this with my wife's 79 Impala Wagon, swapped the crank and installed new pistons and changed her 327 into a 350.) The 350 crank has longer throws and shorter compression hight pistons than the 327. Cam, rods,lifters, push rods, timing chain, everything else is the same.

For even more fun, stuff a chevy 400 in that S-10. Or go totally insane and stuff in a Cadillac 500 into it, it's only 1 inch wider, 1 inch taller, and 1 inch longer than a 350, and only wieghs 75 pounds more that a 327/350!

I thought this thread was about African-American dwarves who worked at Chevrolet. How was I to know it was about engines?
