I'll assume you checked the instrumentation brightness control knob. First things first and all.

I have a similar problem on my 2003, but it's intermittent. The only solution that has worked for me so far is to disconnect the battery for a few minutes, then re-connect. That seemed to solve my problem for a couple of months, but it's back again.

When the headlights come on (they're automatic), sometimes the dash lights go dark - all the dash lights, and the radio is black, but everything functions normally. If I put the car in park, set the parking brake, shut the car off and re-start, they usually come back on. It's obviously not a blown fuse or the dimmer switch if re-starting it sometimes fixes the problem.

Anyone got any guesses?

Thought I would follow up with the final solution to this problem. I replaced the headlight/dimmer switch about 6 months ago and the problem has not recurred.
