Front axle

I may have put too much gear oil in my front differential, it already has a leak where the drive shaft enters, I'm just wondering it this will make the leak worse. When I was refilling it, I pulled the tube out(that I was using to fill it) and it(excess gear oil) came rushing out instead of trickling down, is this too much?
