1966 Volkswagen Beetle "Showroom Stock"

Hello all,

Well here I am at it again. I am starting this thread on another project that I pick at here and there in my off time from my priority projects.

I, like a lot of you, am a HUGE Volkswagen nut. Over the years I have owned several different types of both aircooleds and water squirters. :icon16: And I have worked and restored several others as well. So naturally I have many Volkswagen kits as well in my "to do" pile. This particular thread will be one of four Tamiya 1966 Volkswagen Beetle kits that I have. For this kit I will be building it in an all stock, show room style that would be correct for a '66 Beetle. I will be painting the exterior in a '66 correct Java Green that I had Steve mix for me. The interior will be in an also correct two tone grey scheme that was offered for the Java green.

Hope you all enjoy this build (especially my fellow Volkswagen lovers  )

Here is are pictures of a 1:1 1966 Beetle. These pictures give you an idea of what this build should look like once finished. (minus the orange shag floor mats :puke: )

Here is a quick test spray of the color to make sure it will look right. Thanks again Steve for you your ability to give us fellow modelers factory correct paints. :worshippy

So far currently, all I done with this build is worked on the engine. I managed to finish it up earlier today and thought that I would begin my WIP thread.

And finally here are the pictures of the finished motor with a few extra details. Besides all the paint detailing I added ignition wiring, fuel lines, scratch built fuel filter, oil breather tube, vacuum advance tube, and finished it all off with a light wash to help give everything some depth. The oil bath air cleaner and fan shroud vent tubes will be added once the motor is in the car.

Thanks for looking in, and I look forward to hearing what you think.

How long do you think this project will take you?

Aw, the orange floor mats would be cool. :D

The engine looks phenominal! I'm watching this one for sure.

@ Twenty: Thank you sir. And even though it is very tempting, I think that I will have to pass on the orange shag....

@CL8: Not sure for a few reasons, like I said I am building this along side other projects that have time lines. And I also like to take my time with all my builds so that I can do my best at it. However, I do know that it will go a lot quicker then most of my other builds because I will not be spending a lot of time on heavy fabrication.
Why do you ask?

Hey everyone,

Well the time has come to where I get to give you another update.
Since I have been caught up in a whole bunch of paint drying time with the Supra, I have been slowly picking away at this as well.

Not too much to tell, the pictures pretty much speak for them selves. Its now a complete rolling pan.

Well here is proof that I am still working on this project as well. It has been slow pickings but progress none the less.
More or less the car has gone all green....Java Green that is.... :naughty:

I've been somewhat of a "closet" Bug buff for some time, not letting my feelings for them be seen by many.
THIS build, I DO like very much. :worshippy

It looks good so far,
I think you should put orange shag mats in, and flower frames around the tail lights!
I figured you would be finished in only a few months. Almost a year and a half and still going! You must be busy1

Very nice model. That color looks a dead ringer for the prototype. But it needs some flower power stickers on the hood, lol.
