99 regal gse: had 100k tune up on it except the coils couldnt afford them at the time, they had some rust on them so the mech cleaned them up as good as he could for me now they have more rust on them and turning almost black on the tips, so my question is how can i change them myself{do i have to remove the whole unit or can i do one at a time}. i dont have alot of skills but what i do have has helped me out through out the past 15 years, any and all help is welcomed
thanks roggg

the coils can be removed 1 at a time. It's just a matter of removing the spark plug wires (make sure you mark them so you put them back on the tower), and taking out the two small bolts (I believe they are 5.5mm headed bolts) that hold the coil to the module plate. Grab the coil by the edges and give them a little side to side wiggle. They should come right off. When installing the new coils, make sure the little rubber seals are in place over where they attach to the module spade terminals.

thanks rich, another question is there any difference in power gains if i go with a performance set of coils,or would i be wasting my money if i dont have any other performance add on?????everything is stock for now and will be for a pretty long time too

Stick with the stock coils. They are actually pretty good even when compared to the aftermarket "high performance" coils. The latter is a waste of money IMO.

I agree with Ruley. There is no reason to go with performance coils unless you're building a race car that's gonna spin over 7500 rpm.
