Won't fire!!!

alright i need some help...i have a 1978 bronco custom and it will turn over and over but it will not fire...one day my friend decided to put my battery cables on backwards and it shorted out something...i changed out the coil, still wont fire...my test light doesnt show any power coming from the coil or any power coming from the tach test but there is power going to the coil...what is my problem???

Try replacing the magnetic pickup inside the distributor.

thx for the advice i found out that it was the ignition solenoid i swapped the one off my parts bronco and it starts right up
