Amuse GTR R35

After researching for some time about the Amuse GTR R35, I have started on this kit. The base kit is from Tamiya while the transkit is from Meko. This is a commissioned job from a client and i'm have to produce this within 2 months more or less given that i will be staying in school most of the time.
The most important issue of the build, besides the accuracy of the transkit, its whether the front lip/diffuser is made of carbon fibre. I posted this questions not long ago and majority has the same opinion as me that its not CF. I have checked several websites too and realized they are indeed not CF. But currently my client feels that its CF and thus for the time being, it will be CFed. So pardon me for the slight inaccuracies.
Now lets get started with the transkits. The rear wing alone cost me almost 12 hours to correct them. Take a look
This is the original rear spoiler transkit

After test fitting, its way to narrow!

The front bumper originally is very slightly underfit but after some bending, it fits more or less nicely

Work started for rear spoiler early in the morning!

After 12 hours of work? This is the result.

I havent took pictures of how the rear spoiler fits on the body and the body has just primed. Therefore i will take pictures of they fits this weekend again.

great start!
if you are spending that much time "just" on a small part then how much it's gonna cost for your client???
good luck with the build!!

Well its provided by my client who got them on ebay. You can search for Meko, this company makes some GTR transkits as well as others.
lookin really awesome already man, cant wait to see it done.
whats going to be the choice of wheels?
Its going to be the stock wheels, i cant find any ref pics of the wheel type given in the transkit on a Amuse GTR. I find this very strange. Quite wasteful.
great start!

Well, i didnt quote much and i cant reveal the full amount unfortunately. haha, but what i can reveal is that for the reconstruction of the rear spoiler alone cost about 40 USD, after calculating the man hour cost. I personally feel its really a discount.

:) i did come across your build for this kit. I have to admit your work with the spoiler did inspire me. So let me say thanks here!
Thanks all for the comments and encouragement, I will definitely keep up with this build since it has a deadline....!! Stay Tuned!!

Not to be picky, but the spoiler lip is sopoused to end before the light. Like m-tunings, but its probablt too late for that.
I think in order for you to do it right you would have to cut the wing into three pieces and then extend. Either way it won't be noticable once finished. Good luck and great progress.

that's quite odd the transkit comes with extra wheels because Amuse uses the OEM ones. kinda reminds me of a BBS wheel, perhaps?

great job so far!

Haha you've got sharp eyes, and i bet you are referring to the red circle portion, but i have already fixed that. Its just that i havent took a picture of the finished work spoiler on the body itself. Well, for now the main issue for me is the green portion. This area should have a sharp edge rather than smooth edge. I have attached a actual car for comparison

I know its worth the extra work when its come accuracy but given that im actually commissioning this at a loss till now (due to the fact that the time consumed in just the spoiler is too much). My projected time initially to finish this is 40 man hours but i have already spent an extra 10 hrs on the spoiler alone. Well, i still have a few days to decide before weekend. :)

I feel you, i probably wouldn't go through with it. A lot more work with styrene and putty, also aligning it so it looks straight is more work also, time consuming. Either way, nice progress. Are you going to change up the wheels, and what color are you leaning on for the body? Also even though the lip, skirts aren't carbon i think they would look better with carbon fiber on them.

Glad to have you with the same sentiments! Well, i'm still deciding, but the inner me still think i should try. But anyway, the client wants it to be close like the real thing, so the wheels will be the stock ones, and white body too. He had also just replied me that he is now convinced that the front lip is made of FRP and thus he wants me to paint it now. Well, this solves one of my issues and im looking forward to the weekend for more progress. Thanks for the comment!!

Time for a update,
Painted the body and decals are on. Ready for clear coating
http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/4364/dsc02357a.jpg
http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/9710/dsc02358n.jpg
Modified rear spoiler, very slightly uneven at the surface, but this is barely noticable when fixed to body.
http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/1224/dsc02391a.jpg
Moving on to the other areas
http://img188.imageshack.us/img188/3383/dsc02367mo.jpg
http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/7039/dsc02380j.jpg
Underside with heat stained exhaust. Looked too shiny, will soften it later but anyway i didnt detail much of the underside either.
http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/5974/dsc02383e.jpg
Trying to replicate those high end exhaust, I guess theres some name for the Amuse exhaust as well.

Looking good. The interior is sweet. Can you explain how you painted the exhaust?

Hi, firstly i used alclad chrome before using clear orange, red, blue and smoke in the respective areas. Most of the exhaust is slight airbrushed with clear orange and some detailing is done with a fine brush to replicate the weldings. Tamiya's weathering tools is also lightly used to dull the shine slightly.
Thanks for comments
