I have got a 1997 z71 and I noticed a wet spot under it about middle ways of the truck. I got under it could not see no leaking. On the bottom side of the housing where the starter bolts on ther is a hole.Should there be a plug there?I can see like the fly wheel. Can anybody help me out? Thanks

Welcome to AF.

Really need to spend a couple of weeks to determine the source. If, as you say, it's mid range front to back, it may be a rear seal where the rear drive shaft goes into the tranny or t-case.

If there is a leak somewhere there is going to be a drop ready to drip.

if this is engine oil [check for color with a white cloth ] this would be the rear main seal or the O ring at the oil filter mount...wipe off all oil and grime with a cloth saturated with paint thinner [mineral spirits]
after a short run recheck for leak ..use a strong light. doing this at night or in a dark place with a good light you will see better where this is coming from..
