Custom resin casting

I have a diecast body that I want to build a few different ways. Is there anyone that can cast me 5-10 copies of the bodies?

As you can see the front clip is separate. Also, the doors will come off and hopefully get cast separately.

preparing silicon molds for casting isn't cheap. Even if you want 10 bodies, it may still be cheaper to just buy multiple copies of the die-cast, unless the die-cast is hard to get hold of.

1. Looks like about $100-$150 in materials alone, not including labor time.

2. How much time would you spend improving on the master? Wouldn't want the same massive panel gaps as the diecast, wouldn't want the paintjob, etc...lots of work to prepare.

3. Limited interest, you'd likely be the only one who would want more of them.

I doubt anyone will want to take you up on it. Most likely you'll either need to do the molds/casting yourself, or buy extra diecast models for your variations. If it's cheap enough, buying more diecast may be the most viable option.

Along the same line, and remingonbox I don`t mean to hijack your thread, but what would it take to get started casting resin pieces on a slightly smaller scale? I am thinking about casting some 1/12 scale wheels, air cleaners, etc. Would that also take a large investment? I don`t think I am going to do anything quite as big and complex as the body above.

Smooth On makes a starter kit that should be fine for what you need; and if you have questions you can call The Engineer Guy for advice. That's where we get the resin/rubber locally and it's a good deal and they're great people to work with.

If you end up needing more resin or rubber, they have trial sized kits that are relatively economical.

Much higher quality than Alumilite products. More options for mold materials depending on whether you have the equipment to pressure cast or if you are just pouring into open molds w/o pressure. For example we've been pressure casting both molds and resin parts, using Mold Max 30 (and sometimes using Fast Cat catalyst which speeds up mold cure), and Smooth Cast 300/320 resin. The Alumilite stuff was very disappointing. The Smooth On products have been a dream to use.

You can also buy directly from Smooth On, or find local sources (I've also seen it at Pearl Art Supply, a franchised art supply store).
