PCV Valve Spring?

I replace my PCV valve soon after I got my car around 3 years ago. Well When I took it of the spring popped out of it but it happend so fast that I couldn't really remeber if it had a spring or not at the time and I never could find one. Until now I really didn't give it any thought.

My ? Does not having the spring Cause any harm and can it affect oil consumption?

All the spring does is keep the PCV valve seated in its bore. If the valve where to pop up (not sure if there is enough room for this to happen) you would know as soon as the valve cover gaskets started whistling as they where trying to be sucked into the engine. :)

Thanks! I thought the same thing when I examined the PCV cover, that it could hold the PCV valve in place without the spring. Just wanted to make sure.

C Man the 95's didn't have the spring:)

I'm 98% sure it had one when I changed it out the date on the upper manifold is 2003 so im assuming that who ever did the job put one in there. That's a ticking time bomb but i'm more worried about the lower manifold gaskets than that as I consume 1qt of coolat every 5k miles.

Back on subject. Because I didn't have any drivibility issue I never pursued it or gave it thought. I'm just glad to know it did't originally come with one now. because it seemed to be no reason for it.

No I ever replaced the radiator so it more than likely the original. I have notice in the winter time sometime it would appear as steam would come from the engine more so at downward angles. Thought radiator but since it never drips I never gave it much thought even though the thought of a harline crack has crossed my mind.

If you have never replaced the radiator, you are operating on borrowed time! Usually, after about 10-12 yrs when the tank cracks, it will be in an area around the top radiator hose and the coolant will steam off as it drips down the outside of the tank. Best time to spot a leak is after driving and car sitting overnight. Look for a small spot under the front drivers side.

C Man, if you are still on the original radiator.... Like Hot Z28 said you are on borrowed time... My 95 Cracked a Radiator about 3 years ago... I got lucky as it happened 1 week before I was to go on a long trip.. Glad it happened before and not during the trip..

It also gave me the chance to go from the skinny radiator to the thicker HD cooling core.. Factory unit on the bottom replacement on the top..
