Short story, their daughter was terminally ill with diabetes - instead of taking her to a doctor they decided that praying would cure her.
Well she died - and now they're going to jail.
Dale Neumann, 47, read from the Bible and told the judge that he loved his daughter.
"I am guilty of trusting my Lord's wisdom completely. ... Guilty of asking for heavenly intervention. Guilty of following Jesus Christ when the whole world does not understand. Guilty of obeying my God," he said.
More like guilty of being a selfish dumbass. I really hate the "I'm so right and Jesus is the only way because that's what I believe" mentality this goon is showing...
Coming from a deeply (read insanely) religious upbringing, I cannot imagine my parents being stupid enough to have believed that praying for me would have magically healed my broken leg - "it's ok, Jesus is going to set that bone for you son" They managed to put down their bibles long enough to take me to the hospital to get x-rayed and get a cast.
You can be religious without living in the dark ages...

Some years ago, I took an elective course in university in "Abnormal Psychology". The course material and supporting evidence shows that, usually extreme religious devotion, such as this, is a sign of mental illness, as they simply lack the ability to distinguish metaphor and fantasy from reality.
When you say "the whole world does not understand " your point of view, you have a good sign that you are dangerously off your rocker.
FWIW I have absolutely no time for people who use religion as their primary decision-making resource, especially when it comes to children.
Around here, this most often occurs, it seems with Jehovass Witnesses who refuse life-saving blood transfusions and/or use of blood products for their kids due to a bizarre interpretation of a biblical passage.
