found dtc 442 problem 1998 lesabre need advice

i found the steel line from evap canister broke on the sending unit (rusted out)on top of gas tank the other lines look fairly rusted out to so i have to take gas tank down and change the sending unit my question is can i remove the old fuel pump (works great) and put it on new sending unit without to much hassel.

Yes, but be careful, you have to take off the strainer. When you put it on, the little mettle teeth fit on the plastic of the pump, are turned down, kind of digging into the plastic to hold on the strainer.
When you pull the strainer off, it bends the little pieces, and can goudge the place where the filter fits on.
I had a little bur and I just touched it with my finger to smoth it out and, broke my new pump (I put the 1 year old strainer on, then decided to get a new strainer).
I got a new one free, but when I get my new Sending unit, I wll get a new pump so I don't have to worry about my strainer comming off.
This will be my 3rd time this year, so I don't want to have to do it again.
