AC warning reading.

I always hear the ac compressor(sounds like its right behind my glove compartment) clicking in my car when its running, so i just don't run it anymore and the air wasn't cold. so i used this guage i have to see if the system was running low on r134 and the reading is in the red warning stage on the guage. i think i messed my ac system up because i tried converting it myself. i took a pen and held it on the valve to release all the old stuff from the inside and then filled it up with r134 kid one year ago. the summer of 08 my ac worked fine, but this past summer i started hearing the constant clicks(literally like every second or so) and i was told by a coworker that me simply putting a pen to the valve didn't correctly empty out all the old coolant. i wondering will this have any adverse effect on my car that i should look out for and change now. thanks for any help.

Thats the way it will be when the compressor is not running.. The compressor has to be on for the system to pull the pressure down... To get an accurate reading the system should run for 10 minutes...

Initially, the rapid cycling was probably due to being low on refrigerant. If you did not flush out the old mineral oil and install PAG-150 as recommended, you can expect problems.

Proper conversion, consist of evacuation of the R12 with an EPA approved recycling machine and container. Once that is complete, the accumulator & orifice screen (expansion valve) should be replaced and all old oil flushed from the evaporator, condenser, lines & compressor. After the system has cleaned & new PAG oil added, evacuate & hold a vacuum on the system for a minimum of 45-min to check for leaks, if none are found, then it's ok to recharge. Sounds like you took an early death approach to doing this conversion!
