Paint question

Hi guys,

I'm working on a 350Z right now and I want to make it a somewhat dark purple color. The Tamiya purple is just a bit light for me. Right now the body's been primed with Tamiya gray primer.

The question is...should I spray a few layers of black primer on top of the gray primer? (Duplicolor? What other lacquer primers are there?) Or should I spray a few layers of black paint? (Tamiya gloss or flat black?) Which way would work better?

They would probably work equally well. Maybe find a plastic spoon or similar object to experiment on?

I did try them on plastic spoons. The one with the black primer underneath did turn out a bit darker, but still not as dark as I want it to be. Maybe I just need to spray a few more coats of purple. I did 2 or 3 coats I believe.

Simply using a darker primer might not be enough to get the color where you want it, especially if the color has a fair amount of pigment. You may need to find a different color or mix your own paint and airbrush, or consider a topcoat combination of transparent red and/or blue to get the color closer to your expectations.
