I have a 1985 nissan 4x4 pick-up with the Z24 4 cyl. ( 8 spark plugs) with about 94,000 miles on it. I bouht off my uncle! He said he was driving it one day and noticed it had no power on hills! He said he had to end up replacing the timing chain and gears because it had jumped 6 teeth out of time and had eatin through the chain guide's. when he put every thing back on and started it up it idels good but starts to miss or somthing at around 3000 RPM's and gets a loud nock like a spark nock! I have replaced the plugs with new NGK the same as was in it but he may have also because they looked really new and in good shape only 2 or 3 had like a black soot on them not a hole lot of soot but wasn't as white as the other one's! I have switched the 2 coil wires on it and didn't seem 2 help! I don't know if he could have gotten it one or 2 teeth out of time when he replaced the timing chain or what! I don't know what else to try?

ok I have gotin the engin on TDC and the valves are closed on the #1 Cyl. The piston is at the top of the Cyl, The cam gear dowl pin is in hole # 2 like the book say's but the silver link is not on the number 2 punch mark on the gear it is about directly across from it like it would b 180 degrees out of time but the timing mark on the pully is on 0 witch is TDC and the #1 valves are closed and if I only move the timing chain to the # 2 punch mark and not chang anything else because everything else is right by the book it wouldn't change anything would it?

the silver tab must be lined up with the dot on the crank gear then the other silver tab needs to be on the number 1 gear. all this must be on the right side of the engine when you are looking at the front of it. then you need to make sure your distributor is all lined up right. the number 2 and 3 marks are for advancing the timing as the chain stretches.

Are you 100% sure it has to be on the #1 punch mark on the cam gear because I though the Haneys manual says for My engine the silver link should be on the #2 punch mark?
