Alright I'm trying this again.

I posted a thread a while back about my ABS problem but no one has responded so I'm trying again. Basically, when I'm driving 20mph or under and step on the brake pedal my ABS kicks on and makes a grinding noise and can feel it kicking back in the brake pedal. Apparently this is a common problem with these cars but I can never find the solution. BTW I DO NOT have an ABS or SES light on. Thanks and any replies would be much appreciated.

sounds like it could be pads and or rotors. if the light is not on, there should be no malfunction. pulsing of the peddal tells me rotors. grinding tells me pads. ABS should not make a grinding noise.

The noise I am refering to is the ABS motor kicking on. The pads and rotors are fine... I've heard speed sensors can cause this then I also found a thread about some ring that is on the halfshaft. No idea what any of this stuff is.

Look under you car and check the anti-lock brake rings on each axle. These split and cause the ABS to engage. It looks like a gear.

Where exactly on the axle is it? Do I need to pull the wheel off? Any additional information would be great. Thanks!

I'm having the same problem 1988 Lincoln Continental anyone know how to fix this?

I had the same issue with my 96 continental. Look under the car at each axle near the wheel. You will see a gear type ring around the axle, near the tire. If this is split then you will have that issue with the ABS kicking in. Actually touch the gear ring and see if you can move it. If you can then you need to have the axle shaft repaired of replaced.
