I had the same idea a while back and i'm hoping to do something about it at some point
I think everything you say is already covered in DA or the Cotton books
I was planning a more modern approach to my book

Sounds like a good idea. What will set it apart from the rest? Unseen pictures? Free DVD of videos and sounds? The stories, both of when they raced and how they are now, and race results are a good idea :)

A "Where are they now" section would be great. There are a few F1 GTRs that haven't been seen publicly at all in quite some time - #02R, #03R, #04R, #09R (more like never) and #22R. Thomas Bscher is supposed to still be the owner of #03R and #22R; #09R should still be in Brunei (with flat tire) and the other two are a bit of a mystery.

It would be nice, to see a really well done book on the F1 GTR. Problem is, it would need the collaboration of McLaren (impossible) The Cotton book was pulled by them soon after publication, similar situation to the Duke "McLaren F1 supercar" video.
They seem to wish to monopolize on their own brand name, I can understand where they are coming from, but its a great shame none the less. But after all said and done it would only be a small print run, to understand the situation better, you just need to look at some of the books printed on the Ford GT40.
A really nice poster size, cutaway drawing of the GTR by Tony Mathews would be a pleasure to own.
