My 2001 Chevy Astro had a rod berring go bad at 97K mi.
I have employeed a mechanic to replace the engine but he's had the vehicle and all the necessary parts for over two weeks, now.
How long does it take to replace the engine with a long block, installing new water pump, full tune up kit in an astro?

If the mechanic is fixing your existing engine, he will most likely have to get some machine work done, such as machining the crankshaft, reboring the cylinders etc.

Or possibly he simply pulled the engine and has sent it to another, specialized engine rebuilding shop.

Either way, he has probalby farmed out some of the work because he lacks the specialized machining equipment. If this other shop is backed-up with work, 2+ weeks may be understandable.

However, the wait is inconvenient for you. I suggest talk to him and request the work be speeded up.

FWIW, many mechanics would buy a completely-rebuilt engine on exchange, so the work could be completed in 2-3 days. However, this solution may be more expensive than what he's quoted you.

Okay, I didn't supply complete information. This guy has had my van with the bad crank berring, a remanufactured long block, a new water pump,a complete install kit, and all necessary fluids, at his shop for a total of 15 days, now.
I made the mistake of not getting an estimated finish date from him before I had everything delivered, there.
At the end of the first week, he told me that he had other jobs that had to be finished. Okay.
At the end of the second week, he lied to me and said that it should be finished in two days...two days was two days ago. I use it for my small business and, if there is anything I detest, it's being BS'd.
So, based on the info, above, about how long should it take a good mechanic to "yank it out and replace it?"
Thanks.
