The first one came out nice, i think what you need is a diecast so it doesn't melt. :evillol:

First I love that car and think that it's very sweet that you make one for your girl. Hope that she will appreciate your work and take good care of it in the future :)
The first model looked very well made and i'd like to see the WIP on the 2nd. Will definitely follow your progress!

i hope so too..lol..the 1st one wasnt very well made because i missed a few small details..i guess this 1 will turn out better..
btw..anyone know of any site that has meters and deliver worldwide? or do i have to scratch build them..

hey guys..
a little update on the copen..went to the hobby store today to find out that they ran out of primer and flat black..since i was there, i thought of tryin out scratch building meters..
as u can see, the meters are stuck to the windscreen..well its her car..so i wont ask much..

it's my first time scratch building..so..dont expect much..:p
i'll be using:
-cutter
-putty to fill the styrene tubes..
-3.2mm styrene tube
-3.2mm flat styrene strip
http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs220.snc1/8726_168649008573_665378573_3769223_7895358_n.jpg
first i'll cut out about 3mm length of tube to make the meter..and cut off the edge so that it'll aline with the windscreen..
http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs240.snc1/8726_168649013573_665378573_3769224_3211426_n.jpg
then glue onto a 3mm long flat strip..

then fill the hole with putty..

Nice scratch build )) How are you going to make sun screens for thous? As I cold see from the photography they are not strate... I think it wold be easier to shape the form from tube and then insert the gauge (to fill the hole). And if you take flat styrene strip for base and make it thiner it will look more realistic.
By the way if you have dremel or power drill, you can use it as lathe machine and with knife make shapes as you pleased. That what I do for that kind of jobs.
Hope it will help and wonderful that you decided to scratch build instead of buying! ;)

The gauges look good. It's a shame that the first model was ruined, but it looks like you've got the replacement coming along nicely.

I would be terrified to have gauges in a convertible car. Looks like there must be no thieves in Singapore.
BTW nice job on the gauges, but i also agree with the above. Try using smaller flat styrene. Also i would cut the tube on an angle so you get the gauge lip like in the picture. Then sand out the inside with a file, then putty. Nice progress either way.

i was thinkin of usin straws to make the visors for the meters..but that'll be a later part..needa see if i can get the decals for the meters 1st then i'll be able to adjust everything..

If a hobby store sells them, I think it would be easier to make the visor parts using aluminum tubes and use an electric drill as the tool. Just cutting that angled part of round styrene would give me a sore neck within 5 minutes, it's hard to make all 3 the same, and they all might not match up with the rest of their gauge bodies the same way.
Find a tube with the size that you can fit right over your plastic gauges. Angle one end using needle file (put file on a table and grind your tube end on it), cut if off by some length (more than what you need so you can put the piece into a drill). Put the piece into a drill. While spinning, thin angled edge from inside with round needle file/ or thin entire tube from outside with flat needle file, sand/polish off file marks with sandpaper, finally, saw off the tube length you want. Afterwards tuck your round plastic gauges into the aluminum tube, then the piece is ready for paint.
Similar to what buggy2356 is saying above but just going deeper into the subject. After trying the power drill lathe method I can't stop using it! It's fun and you can make the final product so thin it's hard to do the same with styrene due to the difference in strength. Exhaust tips made this way look excellent compare to styrene tips as well!

Don't forget to do last bit of sanding of the front opened grills and bumper before you paint. Always stick with a white primer on lighter colors including red, white, yellow, and light greens and blues. Good luck.
BTW I don't know if you airbrush or not, but what i have been doing lately is : if the paint color is going to be lets say orange, i add a few drops of orange paint to white primer. And what you get is a light orange primed body, i use this method on Tamiya TS paints decant.
