Engine swap electrical problems v6

I am swapping my 00 3.4 se motor into a 99 3.4 gt Evereything seemed the same until I really got into it. I damaged my fuel rail somehow and had to replace it with the one from the 99, buut as I did it I found out that the intake had to be changed also because my fuel injectors were longer than the 99's. I also found that I was going to need to do this anyways because the big plugins for the fuel rail were not the same so it had to be change to match the 99 wiring anyways. everything else went prety smooth until I got close to the end of the install.
My 1st problem is where the plugins are on the coil assembly. Looking from the front of the car on the left side of the coils there is a place to plugin a 2 wire connector, I got that one. On the right side of the coil pack there are 2 places to plug in wires one is closer to the front and is a 4 wire connector, I got that one. But the 3 wire connector that is closer to the firewall I do not have. I do not have a plug in the wire harness on the 99 or 00. It must come from somewhere else.
The next problem I have is on the 00 motor there is a set of wires that runs on the top of the engine right behind the pwer steering pump. It connects to the Airsolenoid valve right next to the Air check valve loacted on the front left of the motor on top. The 99 does not have these wire on the end of the harness like the 00.
I do not have any unused connectors that I can find. If anyone has a 99 with a 3.4 I could use some help. i did not pull the motor in the 99 and I did not get everything that came out of it . so this has been a reaal puzzle for me.
Thank you!!

it should be two wire connector or maybe one pin is not used. Anyway that is for your crankshaft sensor, look on the old engine that you took out Crankshaft sensor should be somewhere in the middle of the block below exhaust manifold with two twisted wires (yellow and purple)
so the connector that you are looking is now hanging on the old engine. Most likely connector was missing on the new engine that you are trying to install now or is cut somewhere in the middle.

3100, You are right on on problem 1. It was the purple and yellow wires one pin was not used. They were hung around the tranny and I thought they were connected to it. Sterted right up after making the connection.
Problem 2 my mechanic friend that helped find the first missing wires says he has never seen the second the set up on the 2000 with the gold flexxy pipes and all and says he thinks it may have been a California car with some extra pollution control stuff. and he says he would cap off that whole deal. It is all hooked up except the electric connection and it seems to be running fine for now. I will wait and see if it works that way before I remove it totally.
Thanks for your response everything seems to be working fine except the AC. Probally will post that one in a few days if I cant finger it out.
Thanks
Steve

can you post a picture of the device that your tech. is trying to eliminate?

3100 I could not figure out the postingpic thing but I did get a pic on tiny pic .com
Here is the url http://tinypic.com1r52qm8j the plug in is right above the green dot.The there is a small black box that the wires plugs in it has 2 vac lines hooked to one goes to the unit that has the green dot the other hooks up on the back to a similar looking unit. The unit with the green dot connects to the large pipe that wraps around the front of the engine. My 2000 had a little pump on the left wheel well that hooked up where u see I made a plug out of a steel rod on the left side of the pic. The 99 does not have the little SMOG ??? pump ont the fender or the wires that goto it. I did not get the pipe that wraps around the front of the motor or gold flex pipes in the assembly when I bought the car. Dont know if they were on the 99 at all.
I thought it was going to be alright to run it that way. But I have 2 thing that I have noticed.
1. With the hood closed you do not notice it and it runs good. When U open the hood you can just barely here that the engine is just barely surging kind ol fast. Like the revlimiter would do but you barely can tell it.
2. The gas gauge is acting really crazy. It had a little over 1/2 Then it was empty then full then empty with the bell dinging then back to half ..... It seemed ok the first day.
The SES light is on so I took it to Advanced they said it was one of the crankshaft sensors. Tried to remove the old one off old block destroyed it. dont want to have to change that under the car that would be tuffff.
If you have any insight I would appreciate it.
Thanks
Steve

Thanks for the replys!!!! Would the fuel pressure make a dirrerence in performance?????
I am still having a hicup problem I can not figure out.And I coould really use some help??!!..
This is what it does when sitting at idle you dont notice anyting except a little uneveness. As you give it gas it starts to make like a dub, dub,dub dub dub dub kind of noise. It doesnt change with more gas still stays at the same rythm. You can get on the road and get on it and it takes off great and goes faster than you need to be going on most streets but it still does the same dubing until you level off to a constant speed then it is not really noticeable.
I had it scanned by 2 different ones, both came up with crank sensor bad, and the one said fuel gage sensor also. Which could be why my gas gauge is screwy. But thats a different prob not worried about now.
My friend dont think that sounds right. He says if it was the crank sensor it wouldnt start.????? Is that true?????
I have checked plug wire, vacumes, pvc, several times. I have everything connected that needs to be. The motor ran great in the 2000. I am wondering if the problem is in the 99 gt. I checked the gas milage it was only 18, thought maybe the o2 sensors coul be bad???? The top one was in the 2000 the bottom one from 99. Could a o2 sensor cause this problem?????
I do not want to have to change that one on the back of the motor, crank sensor, it wont be easy!!!!!!
I changede all gaskets on motor except the head. Could my problem be caused from a leaky intake?????
Any advice you can give me or tell me how I can check the crank sensors or other checks would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Another ??? I have is the fan speed. Mine do not seem to turn very fast. They both run but I have never seen them run on high if there is a high. The car stays between 205-212 by the guage.
I am having ac problems that I have put on hold till I get it running good.
Thanks

crankshaft relearn procedure is what you need to do. What are the codes.
remember if you get a code for certain sensor 70% of time something else is the problem: like loose connection, broken wires, bad ground etc... do not blame sensors right away.
I don't know any code that clearly states you have bad crankshaft sensor, so most likely you interpreted wrong whatever the code was. In that case it is better to just post code numbers it will make it much easier for you and us.

Steve,
If all your connections are making good contact I'd say your hickup is fuel related.
You put in a 2000 motor with different fuel trims then your 99.
So you're going to need to get those adjusted. Some scan tools can recalibrate your A/F ratios, not all, so you may need the stealership to access these.
As 3100 stated what was the crank sensor code exactly ?
You can test it manualy, we hav the procedure here in our Tips and Maintenance (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=2148) section along with many other procedures.
And the gas gauge code is probley right. The 99-00 had a problem with corrosion on the level sensor arm. Would need replaced to fix, and it's inside the gas tank. :frown:
You can also check the part #'s for the O2 sensors. Im thinking they may also be different between the two years.

Ok I had it scanned again and now it is setting more codes.
P0102 Air flow
P0300 Misfire
P0336 CKP sensor
P0463 Fuel level sensor
Then he went to another screen that showed each cyl. and said is was weak on 4 and 5.
I havent had a chance to do anything on it yet. But I have a whole extra control module, coils, and wires I can start swapping.
Is that what you would do???
Thanks for the help guys!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Steve, I remember that you had problems starting the engine and then I told you to check the connector for crankshaft sensor. Then after you connected everything correctly it started. Ok so your p0336 code could be an old code from the time when you were attempting to start the engine with disconnected ckp. I suggest that you delete all the codes, and check your MAF sensor connector and related wiring. Also inspect all the spark plugs and spark-plug wires looking from radiator side towards the windshield windshield 135-cylinders 246-cylinders radiator make sure sparkplug wires are going to correct cylinders or you will hear that dub dub dub and feel engine vibrate

3100, I had the codes cleared 2 times and disconnected the battery for 30 min since plugging in the crank sensor and getting it started.
I just went out and inspected air flow connector and wires in the area no sign of any damage. But last weekend I took it apart and cleaned out the screen area with carb cleaner and also the throtttle body. Just a quick cleaning with spray while the car was running. Could I have caused something there that might of set off the code??? Maybe the code wont show up if I have it checked now??? Just thought of that.
I also rechecked wires and firing order. Wires look like new but they are a few years old. Plugs are new bosch platinums. Changed them one at a time and didnt get wires mixed up.
Thanks
Steve
