Power Window Switch

Hey guys,
I have an 03 SS and I am having continual problems with the driver's side power window switch, for the driver's side window. I replaced the window motor and regulator and the switch with a brand new one. 2 weeks later, the driver's side window would go down, but not up. The switch shorted out. So I got another one, brand new. Same problem, except the window will go up, but not down. But the passenger side window works with the switch no problem with all 3 switches. What could cause the switch to keep shorting out on me like that? They both worked for about 2 weeks then suddenly go out. I'm tired of tearing my door apart, even though I can do it in my sleep now.

Maybe a loose connection somewhere, or some bare wire touching the door metal? Or has it shorted after it's rained, maybe water is somehow pooling in the switch or near a connector or wires?

You could try tracing the connection from the switch to where the wiring goes from door to chassis maybe and see if any insulation has worn off, or maybe if you're really adventurous take a continuity tester, hook one probe to each end of each wire from the switch to the wiring harness inside or wherever it hooks up, then jiggle the wiring around and see if the continuity jumps around which might indicate a broken wire or short or something.

Well, after surfing some other threads on other boards, it turns out a lot of people have had this same problem. The problem is in the switch itself. The aftermarket switches are all known for shorting themselves out. The cure...spending the extra few dollars and getting one from GM, an AC Delco unit. OEM is the only way to go for some of this stuff.
And my dad is a computer engineer, so he tested each switch and found that it was the switch itself, not the vehicle wiring.
