The amp for the rear speakers in my 94 g20 w/clarion components is beyond help. What is the most cost-effective way to get the system to sound good (not awesome, just good) without spending a huge amount of money and having to rework everything in the car? Is there any easy way to delete both factory amps, replace them with one new unit, use the infinity Kappa speakers I have sitting around and keep the factory head unit, or will I have to replace it if I get rid of the amps? How much money am I looking at for a decent amp and head unit that sounds at least as good as the factory system did originally?

Please help me...

Thanks,

Jeremy

Jeremy, I talked to guys at both Circuit City and Best Buy this weekend and both said that even though it can be done, it won't be cheap because they would have to do some extensive rewiring of the car. All I wanted were 6.5s front and rear, then they said that it would be best to get one amp for all four speakers and the sub, which I was going to add later anyway. The quote I got was $500+ for everything. :( Hope that helps.

Yeah, that helps. I was afraid that was the case, but I was hoping...

Thanks,

what??? i think they were just trying to rip you off, you dont have to rewire anything, you just need to get a harness to bypass the factory amps into your new one, and then replace the speakers with whatever one you want and thats it. try www.autotoys.com they might have something.

If you put in new speakers and amp, YES you will have to rewire some things because in the stock system, harnesses are used to connect everything. There are, im sure, ways to connect the harness from the deck to an aftermarket amp without rewiring that, but you most likely would have to run all new wires from your new amp to your speakers, which in my experience isnt that hard.

I'm in the process of installing my system right now and running wires isnt hard at all (except for the damn firewall, ugh :flipa: )

Yeah, new wires to the speakers isn't a huge deal, I just didn't want to have to put in a new head unit and basically redo everything. Now I just have to decide on an amp.....
