Camaro '69 slight mods 9sec street registered

Hey everyone

this is my first WIP and my first attempt at doing slicing and dicing a car
comments criticism are most welcome:biggrin:


its a '69 camaro rs z-28 from revell

it is being loosely replicated on a 9sec street registered car in the USA i found on the web

cut off the window wipers and puttied the holes in

I only had white primer left ( this is not an indication of the colour ) most likely will be a dark colour

the tubs are a resin job off ebay, it was the whole chassis but it was very messy and could not be bothered cleaning it up, so i just joined them to the original

if you have an old funny car kit you can just cut them off that

Thanks! ( i think! ) i have been modeling for years now but this is my first attempt at major mods

i have done the odd engine plumbing here and there but never anything of this caliber

plus a passion for the car really helps!!





Had to go out for dinner tonight so no progress as yet:frown:

but, these are going to be the wheels and this will be the stance

slightly chopping the rear guards and totally removing the front wheel wells was necessary to create this stance

i had to make the tubs bigger due to super low stance, had some 0.008 tin in the parts bin so i just remade the tubs from this

the interior so going to be all aluminum so the tubs will blend in nicley

i have a 66 nova i want to tub out. but that's till the new year.

the rims i got of a 1/24 diecast car, the tyres are from the door slammer donor kit i'm using

Ok, so i have given her a paint job, the colour is "smoke gray" but it is very dark and looks black metallic

it has been clear coated with automotive 2k clear

i striped the kit chrome of the wheels then gave them some alclad chrome, but i didn't like how they turned out ( just me, i have never used alclad before)

so i have striped them again and im still deciding what to do with them

couple of days ago i put the motor in the car to see how it would look, i like it , but i thought i would change the paint on the super charger and the hilborn hat i had on it so i thru them in the trusty old brake fluid to strip the paint

Normally not a problem BUT it seems to be a problem when the parts are made from resin :nono: the bake fluid turned the resin parts into rubber

Hey, the wheelie bars came from a door slammer kit am using as a doner

i'm not sure if anyone sells them on there own, would be a good idea tho

i went thru the parts box i have and came up with the new injector hat and new blower

i didn't really like it at first but it's growing on me

the butterflies will be painted the same as the body colour

i'm still not sure what to do with the wheels colour wise, should i try to chrome them again?

any suggestions?

I would go with a gunmetal or make it stealth with painting them a flat black.

bro, this camaro is looking sick! as for the wheels, i think you should go with an aluminum color.

chrome would be a lil too much for this car. any of the previous suggestions would look good.

that blower looks GREAT.

I have sprayed 1 wheel with gun metal gray and given it a coat of future clear

what do you guys think?

i'm not a big fan of dark cars with dark wheels, but i don't not like it

I think it plays off the engine pretty well but I think I'm with you with the gunmetal. It looked like the gunmetal would have gone great with it. Maybe add some detail to the wheel? I'm also with you with the chrome don't go there!! Try the other wheel with a flat black or maybe a semi-gloss black. OOOOrrrrr (just got an idea) use the same color for the wheels that you used on the car. Anyhoo! The car is a monster and it looking great!

Right now no, due to time and my two little ones. I haven't done any plastics in a while. I have 5 models sitting. 55 corvette looks like that will be my first model I will work on. I'm thinking of three options:-

A diorama race scene with Cobra all opened up
A British Racing Green Mini with chekerboard roof
A Ferrari Enzo I got for $38 from the PX at Aspley SHS last Saturday that is all opened p and higly detailed
You probably won't tell me but what are you planning on taking. I know the entry to the competiton is a massive sum ($2) so I might not enter!:sarcasm1::sarcasm1::sarcasm1:

not sure, i think we can enter the models on saturday at the latest
