Q jet throttle bushing repair

I have several Quadrajet Carbs that I am refurbishing. I have been reading several articles on the INTERNET that read that replacing the throttle bushings on the primary side is a must. I have looked at several kits available from diffrent internet vendors. The Jet performance 201102 looks promising. Has anyone on the AF FORUM done this to a Q jet before? I could not find anyone by doing a search on the FORUM. I would appreciate any information, testimonies, etc.

Yup, done it several times on a Qjet using the Jet kit. Drill it, tap the bushings in, ream it, done.

The hardest part about it is getting the screws out of the butterflies so you can disassemble it.

I to have used the JET kit with good results also.

Muscle car just did a show on the Q-Jet rebuild and had some good tips on some basic upgrades.

Car craft mag also did an article in the Aug 2009 issue on rebuilding the Electronic Q-Jet.

I found it helpful to take a few pictures of the carb before disassembling to help when putting it back together.
The linkage can get a little confusing until you become familiar.

I've posted it here before (probably in the Chevy Forums) but here's the method.

Remove the throttle body from the bowl. This will entail removing the bowl cover, linkages, and various assemblies and bits.

Remove the throttle plate springs and secondary lockout pawl.

Carefully remove the throttle plate screws. They are staked, so it will take a lot of patience, a proper fit of the driver, and several applications of lubricant and reversing direction to prevent thread damage.

Note the orientation of the throttle plates and remove them. Slide the throttle shaft out of the throttle body.

Measure the length of the repair bushing and ream the body to the proper depth.

Verify the correct depth of the ream to avoid unnecessarily breaking through the throttle bore side, potentially causing throttle plate binding problems.

Drive the bushing into place.

Finish ream the bushing to the correct throttle shaft diameter.

Reassemble the throttle plates, links, and springs. This would be a good time to seal the Welch plugs in the metering wells on the bottom of the bowl (Search for that instructional thread).

Thank you for the replies. I have done a basic rebuilt on a few Q-Jets in the distant past with mixed results. When the MUSCLECAR guys did the bushing replacement it perked my interest as to being the missing procedure needed to make my Q-Jets run like they should. I have checked out various websites, BARKER,SMI, GESSLER, just to see what kits & $$$$ cost they have to offer. F.Y.I. The best bet for the JET PERFORMANCE KIT I have found so far is at MODERN PARTS. They have it listed online for $64.80 shipped. Now the hard part is to convince MOMMA to spend the money.:)
