I have a 03 escalade that displaying "service ride control" Can anyone tell me what this means.

Yes, servive the ride control, the bcm sees a fault in the variable strut functions, this must be scanned with a high line scanner that can access bcm codes.

I just found out that my compressor is bad. When I replace it will the truck a just itself out or will I need the scan tool to do the job?

Service ride control means that there is problem in the automatic leveling system or lose air line fitting that goes to the air shocks. It also means that compressor keep pumping to maintain the pressure.
It could be faulty airline or bad fuse.
