2003 e250 rotor bearings

Before I destroy the bearings, would someone please advise me on the proper way to remove and replace the bearings inside the front rotors of an E-250. Thanks Stan

Remove the wheels and brake caliper mounting bolts. slide the caliper up and off of the brake rotor. Support with a wire.

Remove the outer dust cover with a hammer and chisel. Remove the cotter pin. Remove the slotted adjustment washer. Remove the nut. Wiggle the rotor off and the outer wheel bearing will fall out.

Put the large bearing retainer nut back on. Don't turn more than 5 or 6 threads. Grab the rotor at the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock position.. Pull the rotor off quickly. This will remove the rear bearing and oil seal as you pull the rotor off . Remove the retaining nut.

Remove the inner races using a hammer and punch. You can use the old bearing races to drive the new races into the recess.

Place a gob of high temperature wheel bearing grease in the palm of your hand. With the other hand holding the bearing press it into the grease through the end of the bearing. Do this all the way around until you see grease squeezing out through the roller bearings. Coat the outer part of the rollers with grease.

Put the new bearings into the caliper and install a new rear oil seal. Put the caliper on the spindle and tighten the nut down to about 5 lbs./ft. then back the nut off until the caliper turns freely (aprox. 1/8th turn) and you can get a cotter pin through the slots of the nut. Replace the slotted adjustment washer. Try several different positions for the adjustment washer until you find one in which the cotter pin slots will line up with the hole in the spindle. Put in a new cotter pin and bend it over. Replace the dust cover.

Reinstall the brake calipers, tighten the caliper bolts and you're done.

Thank You, the job was easier than I thought it would be, I did notbuy new seals, but I did get them before I started this morning. Took me about 1.5 hours to do both sides with new rotors pads and seals. Thanks again, Stan
