Redline vs. LS1 round 2

Friday night me and a few friends were out cruising around and as we were going over one of the bridges my friend with the Z28 slowed down so I could get next to him. Now just so you know his mods are custom intake (pretty proud of that since I made it:tongue:), SLP loudmouth catback, and tuned by me. This race he was on the stock timing table since he has been seeing some KR lately for some reason. His AFR is still leaned out to 12.2:1 instead of the stock 11.7 and all fuel adders (piston protection, cat over temp, etc., for anyone fimiliar with HPTuners) are turned off. My mods are in my sig along with a 2.7" pulley I just threw on, Hurst short throw, and more aggressive tune. We went from a 30 which was a really bad spot for both of us, especially him, but we had to do it kind of fast. He honked it down and I stayed next to him for about a second or two then started to pull pretty nasty. I shifted to 3rd at around 65 (my drag radials were still on since I had been practicing lainching, they are small so my gears are short with them on) and shot out a big fireball:). I had about a car on him on the shift. I continued to pull pretty nice until I let off around 100 (so about 90, remember DR's). I had about 3 cars on him when I lifted. We slowed down and he pulled up next to me like what the hell! All I said was 2.7 FTW:cool:

It was a fun little race, but as promised I will get a video of us running from a better speed after I finish tuning him. I just thought I would share this fun:)

Nice race man. Now that your track event got canceled do you have any plans to go back soon before winter hits?

I totally don't believe you. An LS1 F body will run a 13.5 at the track with a paper air filter shoved into it. If you can beat this car you are saying you can toast an Evo in a Saturn. They both are mid 13 sec cars according to the numbers from the factory.

If you believe my doubt is misplaced place your original post in an F body forum and wait for the insults, because they are coming. Anyone who knows LS1 F bods knows that once third gear is caught it's over. 1st and 2nd are tough because of tractions issues, but after that see ya! There is 320HP on tap, no waiting for a turbo to spool. It's there.

If you are telling the truth, then (1) the driver of the camaro is my grandmother or (2) you detuned his car to the point of non existance.

You could write that same post with a VR-4 post in place. However, it is quite rare to happen. I have LS1 friends who will back me to the same extent. LS1's are mid to upper 13 second cars in general. A 12.9 is an exception and not the rule. Even slight mods can be a different story. Hell, people with just a boost controller ($70) have run 12.8's in a VR4 which to the untrained eye looks 100% stock. Even EVO's (not even the MR's) have been known to hit a 12.9 stock but I wouldn't consider this a rule. Just my :2cents:

BTW, on a roll, I'd say this is completely believable even with a decient LS1 driver.

Yes I can beat a stock evo FROM A ROLL with NO problem. My car should be making around 275whp and 260tq at 2900lbs and I should trap somewhere in the 107-109 range. Um...we went from a 30 which I said was a bad spot, ESPECIALLY for him. With good slicks and a good launch my car shouldnt have much problem hitting high 12's, however I don't have the best tires so we will say low 13's. I hope to hit up the track in a few weeks. Also I said he has catback exhaust, not full in case there was confusion. My car is nowhere near stock in case you didnt see that.

Thats about all i have for now. Hopefully you will understand a bit and get rid of the stock LS1 > all mentality. I love LS1s and the cars they are in, but they are not unbeatable, especially in near stock form.

I don't want to see another guys car, I want to see yours run the track, on video. I don't know the other guys mods and I can't verify them. I also can't verify you don't have a 100 shot of NOS when you run the strip with your car either, but atleast it's your car.

Here is my issue:

I know you have lots of mods, but I can't see you beating the cars you say you can beat. A modded LS1 should hit 12.9 with ease. That means you have to drop over a second and a half off your quarter mile time to compete, and that's a lot.

I have personally seen his car run through vids he has sent to my phone. I know he doesn't have a VR-4 either. However, he has a pretty well modified car that is light, and while I am have no doubt it would greatly suffer from lower speeds, can still pull quite hard from a roll. Heck even his friend with the LS1 would back him up, he's on here.

I cant get to the track so name something else and ill try to prove it.

He is just hellbent on what redlines run when they are stock. And I admit, it gets very tricky to keep good ET's when you are FWD, nobody is disputing that. However, from a roll, which this race was, it is feasible. A Civic is a Civic but there are some out there that would hand me my ass. Just because it is at the core an Ion, doesn't mean it is fast. His car is a sleeper with some fairly serious modification. I love LS1's but hate the nutswingers who need a video and documentation every time one loses a race.

I should do a quarter mile run on my interceptor. Its not perfectly accurate but it would be better than nothing I guess. And it would give me an excuse to try that function lol

I never made claims about my personal car, I referenced others who made claims about their car and LS1 powered autos in general. I also referenced the stock time a LS1 f bod runs. I listed the sites argue with them.

I am unbiased, the article I presented listed the Ion Redline as one the top 5 fastest cars in '07 between $20-25k, and that's from Car and Driver. Who cares if I didn't think your car is up to snuff? Apparently, Car and Driver does and they have a team of editors to come to that conclusion.

And i will admit when i was stock that same ls1 put a hurtin on me. Like im talking 6-7 cars from 40-110. And my best quarter mile time stock was 14.8 @99.7mph with a horrible 60'. I should have added 9-10mph to my trap speeds with my mods and with my drag radials hopefully will cut a very low 13, I just wish weather could have cooperated to allow the track to be open. It would be nice to see how well 18lbs of boost pulls me down the track

And nothing says I have to be a racer in order to contribute to a thread. I'm a fan of both the LS1 Camaro and the Ion Redline so why all the hate?

BTW, those are the cars I own now. I've also owned other cars. Not sure, but I think my Porsche 944 and Honda CRX Si (not stock) were faster than 17sec but I'll never know and it's not going to ruin my day either.

Yeah, with 18lbs you should be able to stomp most stock sportscars. Heck, you can put 21lbs of boost in a 2.3L ford ranger with a big Garrett and it will run 13.5 with slicks. It's too bad every other component in the drive train gets ripped apart from the strain.

Best of luck with the car, I'm sure your car is one of those I would bet against and go home with empty pockets.

Sorry. But my sig has not changed. I added the Jeep pic a couple of days ago but that is about it. BTW, all Spectras in the USA come with the Beta 2.0L. So you were wrong. It happens. No big deal.

I need 18lbs. :( May be time to get some slightly used 13G's for $300-400 and just run stock fuel. I've been seriously considering it for how completely cheap it is. With stock fuel, ECU, no SAFC or anything people are running mid to low 12's pretty easy. On top of that, they don't blow up their mufflers! :lol: Just busting your balls man. ;)

Why run stock fuel? Just get some cheap 450's and a 255 Walbro and have someone tune you and run those 13Gs how they want to be run!

Oh and with meth and a WOT box (cuts iginition in between shifts) you shoot mad flames, so over time that shitty muffler finally exploded. After looking inside it, it wasnt stright through at all! It was such a shitty muffler, I just had it on to use with my cutout cause it was quiet but then i blocked the cutout off for now. Now im gonna redo my catback, just have the stock res on now with 2.5 inch piping and a pacesetter muffler, but thats all got to go. It does shoot better flames though lol

Anyone who knows LS1 F bods knows that once third gear is caught it's over. 1st and 2nd are tough because of tractions issues, but after that see ya! There is 320HP on tap, no waiting for a turbo to spool. It's there.

what is an LS1?

Theres a couple 3s owners in Delaware that I know. None of them have neons though.

As for the toyish look comment I don't think they have a toyish look at all.

Oh and LS1 is an engine code.

The LS1 was used in the Corvette from 97-04. This engine produced 350 horsepower and 375 ft lb torque. The LS1 made its way into the F bodies in 1998, until 2002 while underrated to keep sales on the Corvette high, the LS1 still produced 350hp right off the showroom floor. In 2004 the LS1 was introduced in the GTO, and was rated at 350hp and 365 ft lb torque.
