New life for a 97 GV with transmission problems

Last year our 97 Grand Voy. with 127,000 mi limped home with a slipping and howling transmission. Fluid level was good, maybe a little darker than it should be. I had seen all the "bad news" on various websites about these transmissions and the repair costs. Four phone calls to various shops quoted prices between 1800 and 2500. We decided to use that money instead purchase a used Honda, since we didn't need a van size vehicle anymore and gas was sky high. Of course, since it wouldn't drive, no trade in. The salesman suggested salvage, but I just couldn't do it, so I parked it. Winter and a kidney stone prevented me working on it, but I kept doing my internet research, including this AWESOME website. Read a lot of horror stories about multiple transmission repairs and replacements, but also about ATF4 and the need to use it in these transmissions. Got me thinking. Sure enough, we had a sticker under the hood from a local lube place(now out of business) for transmission service at 105,000 mi.
Grand opening special, if I remember right. Could it be so simple? I dropped the pan, changed the filter and replaced the mystery fluid with ATF4. Test drove 12 miles! This vehicle couldn't move 100 ft under its own power before, and believe me, I tried several times. Since the pan only accounts for half the fluid, I repeated the procedure again, to get more of the old junk out. So far, I have driven between 200 and 300 miles of mixed city and highway. The only issue is a "Service soon" light, with a p0700 and p0704 code. The vehicle drives, shifts and and sounds right. Fluid color and level is still good. I am guessing it could be a shift pack issue or the computer needs to be reflashed, but in any case, I feel like I came out ahead, since 8qts of ATF4 and 2 filters is a lot cheaper than a new transmission.
