E-28 Driveshaft Question

I have a 1986 BMW 535i 5-speed with a worn out driveshaft. I ordered one from a local salvage yard and it is aprox. 1 1/2 to LONG! The supplier swore it was the correct driveshaft for this application. I called another supplier with the measurement of 58 3/4 inches flange to flange. He pulled the driveshaft out of the donor vehicle and he measured it..This one is also to LONG. Has anyone experienced this problem? I would order and "rebuilt" for more $$$ but will I still have the same problem...who knows yet? ANY help is appreciated. THANKS

Can you adjust the length of the driveshaft itself. I know for my 1987 528e there was a nut on the center of the driveshaft that allowed the shaft to be lengthened or shortened by a couple of inches. Hope this helps

Yes, there should be a nut that lets the shaft extend and retract.
