95 Grand Am ABS

Got a problem with the brakes. When I am going just around town below 10-15 mph, when you push on the brakes they work ok for a couple of seconds then the brakes seem to release and the brake pedal seems to vibrate but stays solid. If you press harder to get the car to stop, the brakes then lock up. It gave a bunch of codes the first time I checked it. They were 16,91,94,95,97,98. I cleared them and checked it again after the light came on again and it came up with a code 26. I looked them up and most of the first ones talk about being related to the brake switch. The 26 code says the right front wheel has excessive wheel speed variation. Anyone know what the problem really is? All help is greatly appreciated! thanks!

abs does not work unless you are driving over 30mph,

right front wheel bearing is probably going bad,
but check connector for the abs on that wheel

I have the same problem, only when my brakes do that they don't leave a code, and it resets every time I turn my car off. This also happens when the ABS is on and try to do it's job. In the winter it is very dangerous. It also turns of my ETS. Any help would be awesome. I would like to get this fixed.

Excessive vibration is usualy over torqed lugs or a warped rotor.

I would agree with the wheel speed sensor being the problem.

And I think GM ABS is crap! :2cents:

I finally got a chance to do some checking. The connector was clean and looked in good shape along with wires close to the connector. Wheel bearing does not seem to have any excessive play or indicatation of being worn out. Lugs were not overly tight and the rotor appeared in good shape. As for the 30 mph thing, I never seem to have any abs problem stuff trying to kick in when I am applying brakes over 30 mph. The problem is always below 20 mph actually, and I have really begun to notice it is almost always when part of making a turn (pulling into a parking spot or the driveway, etc.). The brake pedal will pulsate and then it like the brakes gave out, only your pedal did not. Again, push on the pedal harder and they will lock up. (Of course always someone seems to be watching and probably wondering who let that guy drive!) If you all think the wheel sensor is the most likely I will give it a go. Again, all help is much appreciated! Hope I can return the favor someday!
