My wife's Silverado z71(1500), I tried to open the hood, and it would not open. :banghead: I pulled on the handle and it does not feel like the cable it broken. I can come to that bridge when I get the hood open. Does anyone know how to get the hood open. I tried to push the lever on the hood lock but that did not work. So does anyone know what to do to get the hood open. I need to do an oil change.

You didn't drain the oil already did you?
I am not sure. you coul dis-assemble the trim in the interior and see if the cable has come off the lever. (i've seen that happen before)

Many times, the latch gets out of adjustment, causing too much tension on the cable and it won't release. Try having someone push down on the hood while you pull the lever and see if that works.

Another thing to try which goes along with what Rich says is to have someone pull the lever from the inside while you gently rap on the hood in the center in the vicinity of the latch. (Use the bottom part of your fist and lightly punch the hood . You might have to try it a few times and increase the intensity, and also try doing it once or twice without pulling on the lever.) The hood should then pop up. My 1994 C1500 had the same problem once in awhile and that usually did the trick to get it open.

No I did not drain the oil. The first thing I always do is open the hood first. Since I could not open the hood, I did not get to change the oil. I am glad that I got in to the habit of opening the hood first. Otherwise I would have to get it towed if I drained the oil and can't get the hood opened. By the way thanks for all the good suggestions I will try them and let you know how it comes out.
