I just bought a new oil pressure switch and put it in and the meter now pegs high and stays there.
I tried reinstalling it...same thing.
Did I get a dud part, or is there a trick to putting in a new one?

I didn't include the details, and I'm not even sure it matters, but it's a 96 XJ 4.0L 4wd

Two things come to mind right off.................
1. did you use an excessive amount of any kind of thread sealant or teflon tape on the new sending unit? That would insulate your new sending unit from electrical continuity, which is one side of the circuit.
2. if, after making sure your new sending unit has a good ground to the block, it still reads incorrectly, take it back and have them check to be sure they gave you the correct sender. A hint, just in case................
there is a difference in sending units between having idiot lights, and having a gauge. They DO NOT use the same sending unit. A very common error by even the best parts counter guys.
Hope this helps.
