'92 Ciera S 3.3L Parking Brake Cable HELP PLEASE

On my 1992 Cutless Ciera S 3.3L the Drivers side parking brake cabelwhere it connects to the metal thing (Parking brake lever) that pushes the rear brake shoes I had to disconnect the cable from the lever. Because of this I can not get the cable back on the lever. I was told to push back the wire that surrounds the cable and the fit in notch, but it is way hard to push back.
1) Would a new cable that connects to the middle of the car and goes to the drivers side rear brake be easier? 2. Where can the brake cable be disconnected? (at the middle of under car?)? I need to get this job finished so please help!

Pull back the spring with side cutters for leverage, not hard at all.

The spring does not pull back easily, it is very ridgid. The easiest way I guess is to take the brake cable apart in the middle of the car, then the cable would push through far enough to attach the lever. Do you know how to separate the cable at the middle???..Hayes does not say.
