Grandsons 2001 ZX3, ZTEC/ with MTX. He went to start it and nothing (battery is two weeks old) after several tries she started but then he had no power accessories (windows/wipers/door locks/stereo) he is taking it to the shop later this week but before he takes it in I would like to check it out. The no start could be the clutch/starter switch, but if so it is intermittant (or he did not get the pedal close enough to the floor) the other issues could be the electrical ignition switch (not the key lock) or a relay. I have no manual so am dead in the water as to where to look for relays, anyone care to wade in?

When you say nothing, none of the dash lights or anything come on or they do but car wont start. Also, although I havent seen to many problems with the ignition switch that does sound like a good posibility.

At first she would not start, no sound nothing (do not know about the accessories at this point as the interest was in getting her started) after she started he tried to roll down windows and they did not work, then stereo and it did not work, or the wipers. Now she starts but the accessories are dead, I assume that many of the accessories wire through the ignition switch (switch off, no power to accessories) so I would lean to that, but without a manual I know not where the fuses and relays are located so I cannot check them out.

Went to Grand Daughter in laws (GDIL)apartment and lifted the hood on the Focus, checked battery cables and the negative one came off in my hand, reconnected it and everything worked. Told GDIL to start the car and she did and it almost jumped the curb before it killed itself. I asked the GDIL if she had the car in neutral and clutch to floor and she said no, she generally leaves car in neutral and just starts it. Does this car not have a starter cut out switch on the clutch pedal, if yes I need to see if it is connected.

Yes it is supposed to have the clutch start switch. Probably just needs to be adjusted. Mine died in the middle of the road and I could have gotten it off the road with the starter in first gear if it had not been for the clutch switch. I disconnected (bypassed) mine for the next time that happened, but it does serve a purpose.

OK and thanks, The issue is she starts without the clutch pedal being depressed so I need to see if the switch has been disconnected or if the switch has been bypassed (maybe by taping the foot in so it thinks pedal is depressed).
