What is your view on guns? Are you for them, or against them? Please explain. I will reply when a few posts get put up.

I'm okay with you (the reader, not necessarily Kris) haveing a gun, as long as you're not a psycho, and as long as you won't let a psycho or a kid use it.
How to decide who's a psycho, and how to enforce it is beyond me. http://www.plauder-smilies.de/sad/nixweiss.gif
This is not to say I want them banned.
I like the idea of the "smart gun" that will only fire if it can read the fingerprint of the owner holding it. I don't know how feasable or practical that is, though.
I'm in favor of more regulation on the possession of guns, because the wrong people have them all too often.

Have you seen Judge Dredd? It's sorta like that. I'm all for guns in the same way Jay is, they need stricten acquistion methods, but don't regulate the criteria or other things. Just make sure somebody is serious enough (and not Psychotic) to wield a firearm. My friend has like 12 guns, but he hunts and so does his dad, he's quite responible, so that's why I'm writing this statement the way I am.

I think people have the right to own guns.... it should be harder for somebody with a record getting guns, and the government has to find a way to eliminate illegal guns.
but all in all if you're a regular guy that maybe wants protection at home or somethin, i'm all for it... I won't be tryin to rob your house. Just make sure the kids don't get it!!!!! that is the main problem, cause younger kids don't know as much of what's right and wrong
Guns don't kill people, people kill people :(

I am all for gun ownership. No need to go into the arguements about owneship (yet), but have tough access to guns is good. Having gun controls for law abiding citizens is bad.

what a hassle and waste of tax dollars!!
I remember there used to be a sign that a farmer put up so people on the highway could see on the way to toronto, when they were makin all the firearm laws worse a couple years ago. I don't remember what it said, but it was something like the government is stupid :D or like criminals are going to get guns anyway... some stupid shit
but every gun owner in canada has to get that licence now, you've seen the commercials haven't you canadian boys?

I totally think people should have the right to bear arms. I have only shot a pellet gun before, but I like knowing that with training I could have security... Atleast in the US, the laws that exist are plenty. All we need is a way to enforce some of them. In today's society, criminals wouldn't attack others as often if the possibility was large of that person blowing a hole through them the size of a basketball!!!

In NZ you can own a rifle if you're licensed but not an automatic.
You CANNOT own a hand gun here unless you are police, military or have a special collectors license etc.
Our police may carry them if they wish but very few choose to. Armed offenders usually get dealt with by the armed offenders squad (swat team) or the special tactics unit (secret service group - more selective than S.A.S.).
I have only seen one hand gun (firearm not airgun) in real life (on the hip of a policewoman at the airport) and I like it that way.

I dont have a problem with guns, In fact I have to say I like them, they have thier use's, and on thier own are about as harmfull as a steel bar or a kitchen knife.
I do however have a problem with people. And since im not allowed to regulate the people, then there is little choice but to regulate the guns. Its at a loss to the people who know what to do with them, but I think you have to look at the potential greater gain.

I strongly believe in the right to bare arms. Take guns away from the public and you leave them vunerable to the criminals whos guns are most likely illegal already.
Although I did vote for more control as I think that would save some lives.

I hear Texas's conceal and carry laws have GREATLY reduced shooting related crimes, but I have no proof of that, but yeah, if everyone has guns, no one's going to use them on anyone. I mean, it works out just like nukes. Sure, we dropped one on Hiroshima many years ago, but we were the only ones with one. Now, since everyone has one, no one would DARE use them, as it would mean total destruction.
For example, some guy just wouldn't bust in a store with a gun to rob it, because everyone else has guns too! Or atleast, I know I wouldn't, unless I were looking for assisted suicide. I say gun control is out of control.

I own a lot of firearms. I teach my 5 children firearm safety, and require before they hunt with me that they attend firearm safety classes. I believe one of the biggest issues is toy guns. This subject gets my blood pumping, so excuse me if it becomes a little obtuse.
Guns are not toys, so in fact there is no such thing as a toy gun. If you teach a child from an ealy age that it is okay to point ANYTHING in the semblence of a gun at someone and go Bang! you are teaching them that it is okay. This is wrong. Please start gun safety at home. Do not buy cap guns, squrt guns etc for your chiildren. Teach them that guns are not toys.
I am a hunter and target shooter. I load most of my own shells, and spend a lot of time in the field. I hope the day never comes that I have to use one of my guns to protect my family, but it is comforting knowing that I have that option.
I also agree, and though I don't have statistical #'s to prove it, that allowing citizens to attend CCW classes and carry a concealed firearm upon completion of such course helps lower crime rates. It would take a real moron to walk into a bank of a state like Arizona or Texas and try and rob the place with even just 10 customers in there.

I'm not really a gun person. I think they need to crack down on the laws to try and stop people getting them. There are far to many nutters out there who can get there hands on one and go mad.
Fair enough if people use them for hunting etc...but personal guns i'm against.
Its hard to draw a line between the two though.

I fear doctors a hell of a lot more then gun owners. I'll try to find the statistics later, but there are thousands of more deaths each year due to doctor incompetence then deaths by legal concealed weapon gun owners.

Age, always about the age... anyway, I'm 18 and the youngest of the group, most of the guys are in their mid 20's, one's 36. Its all about the tactical realism. ;-) I'd also like to mention, so you don't get the wrong idea, these aren't some store bought plastic BB guns, these suckers fire BB's at about 400fps, 500 for the souped up guns, compared to paintball which is what, 250? Anyway, they're less mass, but on bare skin they sting like a mother, but theres no bruising paintball style. The game is played on the honor system, as well, being as theres no paint, but trust me, everyone thats played paintball that we got to play with us converted. Its HUGE in Japan. Check out www.airsoftzone.com for more info. You can get all kinds of guns, for example, I use a Steyr AUG, buddies have M16's, M4A1's, MP5's, UZI's, etc. Standard price for a gun is about $250, and BB's are 2500 for $10. Problem is, all this crap is shipped from over seas, so tack on lke an $80 shipping charge to everything heavy. :-P So yeah, don't get the wrong idea, its way harder core than paintball :-P.

I have played paintball, and loved it. There is a real cool place out here to do it.
BUT: It is being played by responsible older (late teens and older) people, who comprehend the dangers, wear the proper safety gear, etc.. You don't see anyone that's like 8 yrs old playing. I want to take three of my boys, all teens that fully respect the safety involved.

But to answer the question at hand: I'm all for handguns. But just like a lot of you have said, the laws are a bit lax, I think. Primera man said it when he said that way too many nut cases can easily get their hands on a gun just as easy as running down to the store for bread.

I'm for guns. However, I want to emphasize, legally owning them. I have from personal experience seen that it is really easy to get a gun from the streets. I used to own a few of these illegally attained weapons and at a fraction of the cost to getting a legit one. So I would like to say regulate them, but becareful who gets them.

The hardest part of the regulating them is that they are already regulated. You even sited how easy it is to get an illegal firearm. We need to have stronger laws for offenders then we do now. Prosecuting the laws we have already and making the punishment harder would go further then putting more restictions on legal gun owners who are the only ones following the rules now.
primera man - You are right doctors save thousands upon thousands of people each year, but they also screw up (my fiances grandmother is an example) and people die. Just a hot issue with me is all.

Guns vs. Doctors
Gun Owners Alliance, Dec. 20,1999
A recent article in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, concerning accidental deaths caused by physicians, from research of Laura Key, USA, triggered a chain of thought that resulted in someone cruising the web, finding some statistics, and doing a few simple calculations.
Number of physicians in the US = 700,000
Accidental deaths caused per year = 120,000
Accidental deaths per physician = 0.171
Number of gun owners in the US = 80,000,000
Number of accidental gun deaths per year = 1,500
Accidental deaths per gun owner = 0.00001875
Ratio 0.171 / 0.00001875 = 9,120
Therefore, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners...seems we need an instant check on Doctors these days!
Of course there are more deaths attributable to firearms, but those deaths are not accidents.

Let's just say, if you're in the area, you'd know. You don't live in "those types" of areas, so why ask?

I am actually interested, but not sure of the series or model, but there is a 45 or 357 semi-automatic with the muzzle sort of triangular. If you know which one I am referring to, any info would be nice.

You mean a pyramid barrel like

/O\ ? I cant think of one off the top of my head. Let me get back to you on it.
If you mean the whole barrel from the stock looking like a triangle then you probably are thinking of a SIG

Yeah. More toward the tip of the gun than the whole thing. It's rare in these parts and thus hard to know exactly which. But much obliged for the info if you find any.:D

So whats legal in europe?
Here we can own shotguns, and rifles, either single action, or semi auto if its less than a 5rnd clip with a basic license, consists of police interview. Basic gun safety course, and the right to inpect your home to check your storing them safely.
Anything above that gets more complex, Like having to be an active member of a gun club to own a pistol, and President of the club nominates you for a license. Or a collector license where the cops come and inspect your home, and delv quite deep into your history.
It means you can own pretty much any gun you like, and the more passionate about guns you are the more levels you have to go through to own them. If your a weekend rabbit shooter its easy to own a .22, while a collector can still own his WW I Vickers and fire it, if he has somewhere safe to keep it, and isn't deemed likly to go on a shooting spree with it.

Let me add you can own pistols of all makes and calibers if you go to the Sheriffs office for a permit (takes about 10 minutes to take the test and get the background check here in Michigan). The permit is good for 5 days I think and then you show that to the dealer. He sells you the gun and then calls the Sheriffs department to let them know you picked it up. Then you take the gun to the Sheriffs department for an "inspection". Basically they take down the serial number.

I know It sounds sorta dumb, but what would you have to do to acquire a firearm in the neighbourhood of an M-16, AK 47, C7 or something like that? Is it also possible to acquire anytihng most deadly than that? Like a TOW missile launcher or something? I mean there's got to be people that have these things, I heard in Texas, you can legally get a 50 cal machine gun mounted on Hummers.

I dont know where you heard that you could mount a gun on a vehicle in Texas. I dont believe that. There are limits on the weapons that you can get, no AA guns, missles and things like that. I dont know the limits off hand, but I am sure that they can differ from state to state.

I was wondering that, I mean a Hummer with a 50 Cal, that would be standard issue in the Forces, but for Civilian use? I was also skeptical. I also figured that any missile or large projectile launching equpiment was unaccesable.
