Hello, I have a 01' GT 4 door with the 3.8, it has 94K and has just started having shift lock issues. I have to stick a pen in the shift override switch to get the car out of park. When you press down the brake pedal and try to shift car from park you can here something clicking in the dash under the steering wheel/column, I have not had any issues where I can't get the key out of the ignition, like I've seen on some of the other forums, so I'm at a loss with this? Is there any way to override/bypass the entire shift lock operation?
I also have a chirping sound coming from under the hood, a new alternator and belt tension have been installed in the last 5000 miles, I've never replaced the belt? Or could it be the power steering pump, anyone have any ideas what might be causing this, when idling, it sounds like it comes from around the alternator, and it was beginning to make this sound before the alternator was replaced.
thanks,
Brad

The clicking/clunking sound at the steering column is the key release solenoid but that doesn't sound like your issue. Your problem sounds like the shifter assembly components like the shift interlock solenoid or related wiring which is part of the BTSI system.
And welcome to AF.
