Hi Guys,
Wondering if anyone has ever swapped on a larger pulley than stock in order to get better MPG?
I was thinking about getting a cheap MPS, having two pulley sizes (3.4 and 4.0) and keeping my powertuner and laptop in my car and tune my pcm so that I get good milage.
Then when I want to go fast, I could throw on my 3.4 pulley and the throw the DHP 1.5 bin back on the PCM.
If I were to find a 4.0 pulley, would I have to get a larger belt?
Anyone ever do anything like this?

Why not just remove the supercharger drive belt and make it a N/A mobile. :uhoh:.....
Or Tim you could get a Prius.

I was thinking about taking the belt off, but wouldn't that give me worse MPG? Plus if I took the belt off, I could run 87 octane!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Prius? I could!
I dont know Bob, I just commute so dang far to work, so it would be nice to squeeze every last mpg out of it possible.

i wouldnt do it for the simple fact that, well, i guess im a "spur of the moment" kind of racer. whenever i wanna race, its usually when some punk ass pulls up next to me at a red light, or a really loud rock song will come on the radio and ill just wanna put my foot in it for a few minutes...... no matter what, i would never have time to shut off my car, swap pullies, swap belts, retune, then race..... lights just dont stay red that long. if im gonna invest in my car to make it faster, im gonna want that power available at all times
if i personally had a long commute to work and was concerned about MPG, i wouldnt have bought a grand prix. if i bought the grand prix before i had the job, and planned on keeping the job for a while, i might consider trading it in for something more economical

Well, its 30 miles one way and more often than not depending on where I'm needed, its usually farther. I bought the GTP a year before I got the job. I dont think I could trade it off. I have plenty of life left in it.
Your right though, I guess I'll just live with it.

I say you put small wings on the car that will create enough lift to lighten the vehicle but not enough to take it off the ground. Wings = better MPG. :evillol:

I really don't know Tim. I was joking when I made the suggestion.
A 30 mile one way commute is nothing. I do 70 miles round trip daily but I don't do it in my GXP or GTP. :grinno:

Bob, should I take my supercharger belt off for a week and see if my MPG is better or worse just for test purposes? Is it safe to do?

Why not. Give it a test run and let us know how it turns out. I'm curious to see the outcome. Probably good anecdotal info.

I can’t believe I forgot about this! A few months ago I had my supercharger idler pulley disintegrate and I probably drove a good 50 miles before I realized what was going on! I did notice that the MPG on my DIC went up and was confused as to why. The whole time though, the car seemed to run fine!

Hmmm, I'll give it a shot on my next fill up and see how I can come out.
